We decided to stay at OKW because we heard that it is within walking distance of the start of the Half Marathon. Will there be a group making this walk in the morning, or will I be stumbling along the WDW roadways in the dark, alone. Is this a no-brainer walk, or am I better off to hop the bus? Would the resort have walking directions to the start of the 1/2M?

Thanks

We'll be using the bus again but wanted to give a wave to our 'neighbor' :wave2: See ya around the neighborhood!

Denny - we are staying there also. I would love to sleep more & walk over. But Chad says I'll miss out on all the festivities, like freezing to death apparently... Since my mom is also with us, maybe us girls will win out though! ;)

Denny, I will be staying at OKW as well and do plan on walking to the start of both the half and the full. I would love directions and hopefully will meet up with you and fellow disers.

In 2006 my wife and I walked to the start of the half from POFQ. We bumped into perhaps 10 other runners from OKW on the way and did it together. We left the lobby of POFQ at 5:15 and were in the corrals with plenty of time to spare for the 6 a.m. start. In fact, since the Disney folks hold the runners in the staging area, we came up the road exactly when the runners were coming over from the staging area.

From OKW go out the front and cross the access road. There is a bridge over the canal just to your right, walk over it. You are now on the 3 lane wide road which angles across the north and east of the EPCOT parking lot, exactly where the marathon starts. Turn right and walk to the start, it is about 1 mile. As you get close to the starting corrals you'll see and hear it all.

I'll be walking to the marathon start again this year. It's the best way to maximize sleep and rest and minimize standing out in the cold before the races.

My family is also staying at OKW. I walked to the start of the full last year from POR and went right by OKW so we are using our DVC points and staying there this year. I would definitely be up for walking to the starts of both races.

I'll be at OKW, too. Anything that lets me sleep longer is good for me! :teeth:

If we have enough people interested, perhaps we can arrange to meet at the lobby in the morning, and walk to the start together.

If so, does someone want to suggest a time?

Sounds great to me. I'll work on Chad in the meantime. I'm sure my Mom will go with whatever we decide, but I am thinking she'd secretly like to wait in the warm room at OKW. She & Chad froze to death last year waiting for the Half to start!

I need to find the pic they took of themselves in their Target Christmas cheapie blankets. They looked like homeless people! :rotfl:

I wanted to bump this but also ask if anyone knows which building would be better to stay in at OKW to shorten our walk.

Greetings from OKW. We are in 1512 for the duration if anyone would like to visit.

We're arriving on Thursday morning, can't wait to see all our neighbors!!! We'll have 3 Pal Mickeys between us three ladies.

I'll make a note and if we're in the same building be sure to watch for ya so we can say Hi!!!

Regardless we will be watching for all of you on the buses and at the main building. We're planning on being on the 1st bus to the Expo on Thursday and hoping there will be enough room to catch John B. at the Expo on Thursday at 5.

Wooohoooo!!!! It's here!!!!! :yay:
