Staying at multiple resorts?

Hi! I am new here and very thankful to have found this board! I have so many questions about planning our trip to Disney (2006).

We are going to spend 13 nights in Disney World (Sunday - following Saturday). So far, we know we want to stay at the Wilderness Lodge.

As I research, what if we find we would like to stay a few nights at another resort, or two, or three? Is this possible and how would one go about it? Would it possibly make our Disney experience less enjoyable instead of more enjoyable?

I really like staying in 2 resorts for our visits. We were able to stay at the Poly for 2 nights and still stay within everyone's budget by staying at the POFQ for 5 nights first.
We found it very easy to change resorts, we did not have a car, but Disney transfers your luggage for you, it was great!
Staying at more than one resort gives you the chance to experience a different theme all in one stay.
My only regret was just staying 2 nights at the Poly, we were really just getting use to it and it was time to leave. I would stay 3 nights and 4 nights if I did it again.

We are doing a split stay for the 1st time this May- 4 nights AKL and 5 nights Poly. I wanted Poly for all 9 nights but it was impossible to get the AP rate for the whole time and I can't pay rack rate for that long.

I'm kinda nervous about the whole transferring of luggage, but I think it will be fine. We are only going to have two rolling duffle bags. I'm tempted to put a big tag on them that says "this luggage goes to the POLYNESIAN!" but I think the bellhop might think i'm nuts.

I've done this various ways. I have split stays where I've done 3 days onsite and 3 days offsite. The most resorts that I've switched in one vacation is 3 times. I do feel like I have the best of both worlds by doing this. Whatever you do, always end your trip with the highest level of resort (deluxe or moderate). It's easy enough to start your vacation at a value especially when your probably seeing a lot of the parks for most of your day. Last few days at a moderate or deluxe leaves you with more time to relax and enjoy the resort whether you want spa time, pool/hot tub time, boat rental or room service without having to deal with parks all day. As stated above it is easy to move the luggage around as they will do it for you. Enjoy your vacation.

Does resort switching include the Dolphin/Swan too? We are staying at the Dolphin most of our visit but will probably be at the GF for a day or two. Will Disney still help with our luggage from the Dolphin to GF or vice versa?

We transferred to the Dolphin from ASMo and it was handled beautifully for us!!! Couldn't have been easier.

I would actually suggest that you should switch resorts during your 13 night stay...As you can tell by my signature below my husband and I cannot stay in one place very long and we always hop around from resort to resort. The reason being is it lets you explore different resorts and what they have to offer as well as it makes your vacation have a twist. Whenever I check into a new hotel it's like I am starting my vacation all over again. Don't be nervous about moving your luggage Disney does all of that for you and they are very familiar with the process, I have never had a problem doing this.

The most resorts we did in one trip was 3, yacht club, akl and polynesian. They are all deluxes but if you are combining a value or moderate with a deluxe, I would definetely save the deluxe for last. We know what resorts we like too and if I wasnt able to get a decent rate at one, I wouldnt mind splitting my stay. Just a word of advice, if you let disney switch your luggage, take everything you need for the day. We waited over 5 hours for our luggage once. Not good since little ds wanted to go swimming. Last time we just paid for a taxi and dh took l of the ds with him from the polynesian to the swan. By the time I bussed with the other 2 ds, dh had already checked in and was in the room with other ds watching tv and waiting for us. Disney will do the luggage transfer for you.

Wow! Thank you for such wonderful advice! Since reading all your comments, I've decided that we'll not stay any less than 3 nights at each resort (we could actually pick 4 and do 3/3/3/4 nights for example). I also am so glad to read about saving the best for last. Makes all the sense in the world and I would have not thought of this on my own. I'm thrilled to hear about the luggage transfer. Sounds like it would be a breeze that way. I really think trying mulitple resorts will make our experience more fun...so we'll do it! Thanks again. You'll probably see lots more of me on here as the time draws closer.

In January we did a split stay at WL and AKL and loved it. It was like going from the Pacific Northwest to an African Savana in one vacation. WDW has it down to a science. We checked out of WL early, they picked up our luggage in about 5 minutes, then we caught a bus to AK and from there to AKL and did an early check-in. Our room wasn't ready, but they gave us room keys. We then went to MGM for the day and called that afternoon to get our room number. That night as we went into the aKL we stopped by bell services to ask for our luggage to be delivered and they said if we would wait just a minute they would be glad to escort us to our room. We were in our room with our luggage in just a few minutes.

I'm doing a solo trip in May and will be spending two nights at POP, then five nights at BWV, then finish the weekend out with two more nights at POP. Even going solo I'm not concerned about the split stay. I know WDW will take care of it.

I'm taking my son and D-I-L to WDW in late Sept-early Oct and if I can rent DVC points again, it will also be a split stay (OKW & POFQ). I'm also doing another solo trip in Dec and it will be a split stay probably (if I can rent DVC points for Sun-Thurs).
