I made reservations to stay at HoJo's based on all the good reviews here and then realized it doesn't include breakfast. What do most people do for breakfast when they are staying at HoJo's??
If you're "sit down to breakfast" types, there is Mimi's right across Manchester, and Millie's further down (also McD's but we don't go there).
At any hotel we tend to just get something small for early morning...granola bars, Clif-brand bars of various types...water for DS, coffee for the grownups...go to the parks, then have either a late breakfast or early lunch in the parks.
We bring our own. Instant Oatmeal to cook in the microwave, fruit, muffins, yogurt, granola, etc. If you can't pull that off, then stop my MiMi's Cafe and pick up one of their amazing muffins on your way to the park.
I haven't stayed there, but I usually bring bread, peanut butter, cereal, fruit, nutrigrain bars and eat in the room. I have one of those plug-in coolers for milk. It is cheap and way healthier than eating just about anywhere for breakfast.
You can get groceries delivered to HoJos, I believe. Vons.com (Safeway) offers free delivery if you complete an order over $50, which sounds like a lot but has said to be very easy to do. The in-room mini-fridges are said to be large enough to house 2 half galons of milk. You may need to do some shelf arranging.
I think there is also an on-site convience store that has breakfast items.
We bought breakfast cereal from the little store at the HoJo, but if you like a cooked breakfast & don't want to eat in the Park you could go to Mimi's or down to McDonalds etc
As a special treat we get Etamins coffee cake (I know I am spelling Etamins wrong...) and fresh fruit, (I like mangos, grapes and oranges...) with coffee and milk, it makes a wonderful breakfast.. Yummmm... It is the PERFECT pre Disneyland breakfast.. (Well, for me anyway...) You do get a fridge in your room... So that makes it nice...
I honestly don't remember what their little store had as I didn't pay attention. As for a microwave, it depends on what room you get. Our standard room last time did not have a mmicrowave, but the despription for the deluxe we have booked for our next trip says it does.
We normally drive rather than fly so bringing milk and cereal has never been an issue for us. Those individual cups of oatmeal work well too as you don't need a bowl and you can make them with just hot water. I am debating Von's if we fly this time around. I'm just not sure how I'd spend $50 for the two of us for just a couple of days on just breakfast and maybe lunch. I've heard there's a Target and a grocery store (maybe the Von's tha delivers?) not too far away if you are so inclined.
Only Deluxe and Premium rooms have microwaves. That would be any Premium Disney view room or Kids Suite in Building 1, or any Deluxe Queen/Queen in Building 2.
One morning when we stayed there, my husband ran over to Mimi's (right next door) and got a couple of breakfasts to go and brought them back to the room. The portions were large enough to feed all four of us with a muffin or two thrown in for good measure! The other mornings we just ate cereal in the room. As I recal the little store at the Hojo had quite a bit of selection and it was reasonable. I can't remember if they had fruit or not.
I used to pack food in my suitcase but now that the airlines charge for bags, I don't do that anymore!
And its very easy to just stop in at Mimi's and grab a muffin and coffee to go to enjoy on your way into the park.
Its nice when hotels offer a free breakfast but my experience with the ones offered at some of the motels there on Harbor (Tropicana, Camelot, BWPPI) is that while nice and free, they aren't worth missing when you stay at the Hojo!
Mimi's for a good sit down, or for muffins to eat on the way. Millie's for a good sit down. McD's for a fast food breakfast or we take muffins of our own.
I used to be a sit down breakfast while on vacation kind of person but after realizing how key being at the parks before opening is, I have rearranged my thinking! Now, we usually have bars/fruit in the room and grab that for a get going snack. Then, we'l stop for a late breakfast in the park or just wait and do an early lunch. We then don't usually eat again until an early dinner. This works well for us. Sometimes we'll stop at McDonald's but the lines can be really long and slow moving sometimes and the restaurant is a pain with our double stroller. We have done Mimi's and I was shocked it was not that busy on a Sat morning although it was after park opening so we might have missed the crowd. I remember seeing their take-out options and thinking it's a great option to send someone over for breakfast to take back to the rooms! Not having a continental breakfast is the ONE downfall to HoJo's but the price is so great....
I do remember the store having a large variety...even pop tarts and donuts and stuff but couldn't say exactly what they have. I am almost positive they had milk and individual boxed cereal....
