Wee will be staying at the grand Californian Sat. What day do we get to use magic morning Sat or sunday?

If you get there early enough Saturday, you can do Disneyland Saturday, and if you have a park hopper you can do DCA Sunday.

You need to have checked in, but they can check you in as early as 6 AM I believe (whether your room is ready or not)>

To get in the gate for EE, you'll have to show a room key along with your ticket.
Plan accordingly, check-in super early for that room key and enjoy EE for both Sat and Sun.

Later in the day they'll send you a text when your room is ready.

Seasoned members know this information. However, for any new members here you go.
MM is Magic Morning, for tickets 3days to 5days. MM is only for Disneyland.
The MM schedule for Disneyland is Tues, Thurs and Sat.
EE is Early Entry, for guests of the three Disney hotels.
The EE schedule for Disneyland is the same as MM.
EE for DCA is Sun, Mon, Wed and Fri. Again, DCA EE is only for Disney hotel guests.

It's really worth checking in early. They'll stow your bags for you and text when your room is ready. But our rooms have been ready (at 6am!!!) every stay but one.

We routinely spend our first night (cheaply) off site then get up early to check in at the Grand. We allow about 60-90 minutes before EMH for check in and walk to the turnstiles on the Esplanade. This allows time in case reception is crowded, to settle in if the room is ready or to stow the bags with Bell Services, and to get through security and be at the turnstiles 30-45 minutes before EMH opening. If everything goes quickly, then we walk slowly and/or stop for a bite in DTD.
