I just spoke with MS and told them I will need a refrigerator for my stay at DxL (on points). After I hung up and told my DH he asked how much the refrigerator was a night. That is what I forgot to ask. I recall at one time paying $5. per night for refrigerator then it increased to $10. per night. Just wondering if this would be a benefit of DVC?

Thanks

Sorry, I have not heard of a fridge being a DVC benefit. I would assume you will be charged the going daily rate. You might want to consider using a styrofoam cooler and replenishing it with ice daily. Most grocery stores sell the styrofoam at a very reasonable price.

Refrigerator at DxL is $10 a night extra and that will be charged to you even if you are using points for the stay.

Thanks for the info. I suppose I had kinda thought I would be charged for it. A styrofoam cooler sounds good but I have to keep antibiotic medication in it. My 2 year old is on it for 30 days for a chronic ear infection and I would hate for it to go bad if the ice melted.

You'd be surprised how long ice will stay frozen in a Styrofoam cooler. Last year we went down and stayed in Coronado Springs. We used a standard Thermos (brand) large plastic cooler, replaced the ice daily, and kept everything cold for our entire stay. With Styrofoam (or polystyrene) you can probably go at least two days between replenishing, and still keep everything ice cold. I wouldn't pay $10 a day to rent a $100 refrigerator.

Why not do a test: buy a cooler, put ice and a thermometer in it (not touching), then check the temperature daily. The laws of physics don't change in Orlando

I think I heard somewhere that if you need a refrigerator for a medical reason they will give it to you free. Worth a try.

rbuzzotta, here's another suggestion.
About a year ago, we purchased a powered Coleman cooler at Wal-mart. I think about $79 then. It runs on 12 Volts DC and plugs into your car cigarette lighter. Ours had a bonus in that it also came with an AC adapter that you could plug into when you had electricity (as in a hotel room). We have used it extensively and it works great. I take it from the car into the hotel when we travel and it keeps cool all night. No ice to mess with. They do recommend not to leave it running in the car when the engine is off, for example if you go shopping or something. (It would be like leaving your car lights on).

The cooler also has a neat plug that if you reverse it, it becomes a heater instead of a cooler. It cools or heats, as appropriate, approximately 40 degrees below/above room temperature.

We were at Wal-mart this past weekend and I saw them still on the shelves. Instead of renting a fridge, you could probably buy this and have it too. They had two different sizes. If you're driving, either one would be OK, but if you're flying, you'd probably have to consider the size.

Those power coolers/heaters are great! We have one too and wouldn't travel without it. It would be the perfect solution to your problem provided you wouldn't have a problem transporting it.. It is a little noisy though. You'd have to consider if this would bother anyone while sleeping. I have seen them at SAMS Club as well as WalMart.
