Staying at Disneyland Hotel but parking at Paradise Pier?

I'm reading The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland 2012 guide book and they point out that if you have a room in the Frontier Tower you're actually better off parking in the Paradise Pier parking garage.

When you stay at the DLR hotels do they give you anything to put in your car to indicate which hotel you are staying in? From what I read recently they just check your key upon exit from the parking areas, but I saw on another site that you receive a pass to put on your dashboard. Perhaps that is outdated info?

Obviously my first thought is that this would be frowned upon and selfish because it wouldn't be fair for PP guests to come back and have a chunk of their garage sucked up by DLH guests. Is their garage pretty open? Has anyone who stayed there ever had a problem finding a spot?

(They also mention the little back parking lot adjacent to the Frontier Tower but say that most of the space are already reserved for the DVC sales office.)

I was in Frontier last year. One time, we were lucky and found a parking space in the tiny lot next to Frontier. After that, I never got that lucky, and did park at PP. They seem to have enough spaces there, with the parking garage. I usually used the outside lot, closer to DL Hotel, most of the PP guests seem to use the actual PP garage.

When I was at GC on another trip, they made US park at PP as well, they were replacing shrubs or something and closed the GC lot during my entire stay.

Good to know. Thanks for the input!

So there is nothing you put in your vehicle that indicates where you are staying? Does your room key even mention which hotel you are in? (This is my first time staying on property so I'm not familiar with any of their policies.)

I am trying to remember, but I don't think you put a card on your dashboard like at WDW (or maybe you do, now I am confused). And no free parking at DL! You do have to drive past security and show your room key, I think. I would drive into the DL Hotel area, check the little lot near Frontier, and if I struck out there, I would head over to PP. The lots are adjacent, and you don't have to go back thru security again to go into that PP lot/parking garage.

I think the keys are like WDW, they do not say your hotel name.

Since valet parking is only a couple of dollars more then self-park that might be a good choice if the walk for self park is to far. We had to use handicapped parking at DLH on trip last year. ( I have neurapthay of both feet). I walked one time -- by time we got to car my feet hurt so bad I never tried to walk that far again. ( I rent an ECV for park use).

They do not give you a paper parking pass like they do at WDW - you just show your room key at the exit, either to the parking attendant in the kiosk, or put it into the automated gate if you go out that way. I usually go out via the kiosk because I never seem to have any luck getting my room key to work at the automated gate. Anyway...no matter which of the three hotels you're at you can use any of the parking over there by the Paradise Pier.
