Staying at a WDW resort WITHOUT visiting the parks?

Some friends from my temple do this every year. They fly down check into the Animal Kingdom Lodge for a week and just do the water parks and everything the lodge has to offer.

We are spending a night at AkL ti enjoy the atmosphere we just did Disney in April and did parks every day and it was exhausting and we didn’t see much if the resort we were at a moderate but still it seemed like a waste

Yes, we've done this a couple of times. Once we spent our time on a backstage tour and then we rented mouse boats on Bay Lake. Second time we rented bikes at Wilderness Lodge and rode around there and the campgrounds. Later we did a segway tour at the campgrounds. We also like to visit AKL and see the animals.
