Staying at a DTD resort as opposed to onsite.

Is this an option worth looking at?

We wont be renting a car, so I've only ever considered and on site hotel (plus I love the disney magic!) but I'm guessing teh DTD hotels are way cheaper.

How does transport to the parks compare?

Is it best to say go to SSR from DTD and use their transport? Or are there buses to the parks from DTD?

Do any of them offer EMH?

No, it would be a complete palaver and, in any event, the DTD hotels offer their own shuttle services. This site gives a good overview of the resorts and their benefits. EMH, unfortunately, isn't one of them.

Thanks Deb, I had a look at that site, and the Hilton has EMH, but having read tripadvisor reviews, the shuttles dont get great write-ups and also theres no magical express or anything....

Back to square one i guess!

why dont you stay at pop century, we stayed there last feb and thought it was great. not a deluxe hotel but if its just a bed you need we found it great.

We stayed at the Best Western at DTD the first time we went, it was fine and handy for DTD and Crossroads, the second time we went we stayed at Pop as it was only slightly more.

And was it loads better being onsite?

i would never stay off site but thats my opinion.

you get in extra hours being onsite and have the use of all the transport so you dont have to pay parking everyday.

I think also sometimes staying onsite is only a little bit more than some off site and you are in disney

Yeah, I think I'm an onsite person too!

Just if we do stay onsite I'll go for a Mod, as all 4 look wonderful, and for a couple of hundred pounds I'd want to try one. :)

Deciding which one will be the hard part!!

we have stayed at pop and all stars and coronado for our wedding.

We are going back this aug and staying at pofq

I would never stay at all stars again but pop was really good. the buses were the best we have had

CSR was very big and I would not stay there again.

Our free night with the wedding was at the poly and that was fantastic

I did feel more part of it in a way, but the room was better offsite. We had a car both times so can't compare the transport. I wouldn't like to stay in a hotel too far away. We didn't make much use of the EMHs. Our next trip is for our wedding so we'll be staying in Deluxe Disney hotels, which may spoil us for life.

Cool - yeah I can't choose between POR and POFQ but then I've had times where CBR and CSR have looked like my favourites! Very tricky!

I don;t know as yet if I want to stay at Poly or GF for the wedding...I'll have a good nosey at them both this trip though!

Haha - with you there, we're staying at DLH @ DLRP in two weeks - and I'm guessing we wont be happy to book elsewhere after that.

I think I'll try the Contemporary or Wilderness lodge for our Planning session, I wish there weren't so many hotels!! Lol.

we had our comp night at the gf but changed it as its just not our style. When we are not in disney we holiday in the caribbean so though the poly would be great and it was. We got a concerige room and it was so nice.

There is no way we could ever afford to stay there again i doubt but we are aiming to stay there when we go back for our 5 year vow renewal!!!

CBR is very nice but we chose pofq as its smaller than most so a bit mroe itimate

We haven't booked yet but we'll def be staying at the Poly & AKL as part of our wedding/honeymoon and maybe the Contemporary as well.

I would stay on site for the transportation benefits.

I have stayed at POR after staying at the DLH Castle Club the same year and didn't feel let down. POR is a lovely resort however I would go for POFQ if I was choosing again as the buses stop there first however CSR is probably the nearest to a deluxe resort in terms of facilities. I also stayed at All Stars Music last year and thought it was fantastic value for money.

I would stay on site the transport is great and the EMH are essential for an extra bonus too!!

I stayed at POP and loved it there - it was much nicer than I thought it would be, and much nicer than the Sequioa Lodge at DLRP (which is a mod level I suppose), the hotel is pretty new (2004 I think) so the rooms are new and modern. The bus service is excellent (and much better than the other hotels I noticed).

Thanks Gemmy - a lot of votes for POP! Surprises me! Lol. I guess I kinda just assumed value means crappity.

Not at all - its all honestly great fun. I loved waking up and opening the curtains and a giant roger rabbit was across the walkway from me!:goodvibes Pop was still very magical and meant we could go for 15 nights instead of a shorter trip at a mod :) .
