My DH is quite frugal and thinks we should drive to Buffalo in the wee hours of the morning to catch our 7:15 am flight (in Aug with SW airlines)and just park at the airport to save the extra $40 or so it would cost to stay in a hotel. I personally think this is quite risky just in case we sleep in, hit summer road construction, have problems at the border etc.. We just have parked at the airport before but to catch a 3 PM flight not an early morning flight.
I think we should spend the extra $$ and stay in a park n' fly hotel. What do you think (I am going to have DH read the replies)???

You pay parking for the duration you won't have saved much if anything!
If you overnight at a hotel near to the airport you can leave your car there free for up to 14 days in most cases. They offer shuttle to and from the airport and it kicks off your vacation if you ask me! We always do this when flying out of Buffalo, arrive around 3:00, check-in... shop at Walden Galleria and have dinner at the Olive Garden and get an early night waking the next day raring to go. There are usually great rates to be found at the airport hotels!

we always take the early flight 7.30 am we drive from kitchener .we leave 3,30 or 4.00 am cross queenston and we are through in minites we park at thr airport longterm and picked up by the shuttle and off to the term. no trouble at all we have a snack in our backpack and get coffee there and off to disney
((WE CHECK IN ON LINE AND ALWAYS GET AN A BOARDING PASS))

I do it exactly like Canron...also in Kitchener. Try sunpark.com and print a coupn...cheaper parking.

I tend to be the 'go first thing a.m.' type of person. Just set 2 or 3 different alarm clocks if you're concerned. You shouldn't have to worry about bridge traffic or construction problems at that time of day since you'll want to plan to be at the airport by about 5:45 a.m.

My DH will be smiling to read your posts. Last time we paid about $45 to park at the BUF airport in March and when we went to WDW last summer (though out of Detroit--we could not get a flight out of Buffalo at the time we wanted) it cost us about $100 US to do the park and fly at hotel. Since it is not an international flight I know you can arrive later, though we cut it very close in March. We got lost driving to Orlando from Vero Beach and encountered construction so we arrived at the airport at 2:10 for our 3 pm flight (we had printed our boarding passes the day before) I was panicking but that incident just proved to Dh that we could make it in plenty of time but I am still nervous.

We did this in March for a 3 day trip. It was fine but we were quite tired on the first day. Next year we plan to stay overnight in Buffalo. We left Toronto area at 4. We park at the Buffalo airport and find it reasonable compared to Toronto prices.

Assuming that you need to be at the airport by about 5-30am or so......I wouldn't take the chance of running into some issues on the road or at the border.(where are you coming from.......if you are from TO or further east or North,it could be a bit concerning....the folk from Kitchener are not so bad off).
If you go to this website and punch in your dates,......
http://airportparkingreservations.com/airports/buffalo/index.shtml
you will see a comparison between airport parking and the overnight ,hotel stay.
I punched in some dates in June for a one week stay.
Airport Parking - $74
Ramada Limited - $85 (up to 2 weeks parking and free shuttle)
For $11.......I would say say no argument(JMHO)

I agree with staying overnight in BUF. If you're getting up at around 3am it could end up being a lost day. Plus, the prices at the airport parking lot have gone up. You can see them on the airports web site. The hotel rates are only a few dollars more and you can hunt around for discounts either online or by calling the hotel and asking for one.

Another vote here for a park and fly hotel stay! We enjoyed the "no hassel" approach and it's great to start your vacation a day earlier with a nice hotel stay, shopping, dinner and a nice breakfast early the next morning. :thumbsup2 It's only a few dollars more if you're only going for a weeks stay in Orlando. We always stay at least 10 or more days so the hotel stay is perfect. :)
