Stay offsite for none Disney excursions?

I know I sound like a very spoiled DVC owner. We have never stayed off campus when we come to Orlando. Even when we visit other parks, we would just Uber out and back.

I have a large amount of children (4) joining me next June and another family of 2
, total 7, Usually I do one bed unit for my own family of 3. So this time I am considering staying off campus for the last two days when we visit seaworld and Universal. Anyone think this is a good idea? If so, which off campus property is good for 5 children (10-14) ?

We stayed at HGVC Sea World some years back on an RCI exchange. Nice place, just around the corner from the SW entrance and easy striking distance to Universal. They have 2BR and 3BR units. There are also several Marriott Vacation Club resorts in that area.

Universal Portofino is definitely on my list to try.

The Universal hotels are a lot cheaper than Disney, so there's a lot of choices, especially if no one is cooking.
