WDW vet and we are going to DL for first time Week of Thanksgiving.

DLH and PP are available for 250 per night. Currently have ressies on reward points at Hampton Inn Suites.

Big Question??? Should I stay at PP or DLH? Would it add that much more to the trip?

Appreciate opinions either way.

Oh, by the way, just got back from DCL Wonder a few weeks ago if that adds to the question - - I think I am becoming a Disney Resort SNOB.

It may be worth it.

- MM available for DLR hotel guests. (could be valuable the week of Thanksgiving). Will you be coming from the east coast?
- Walk to parks (instead of the bus) Where's the Hampton??
- The DLH is normally a $40 bump from the PP, so if the same price I'd stay there.
- If you decide to spend less and stay offsite, why the Hampton? Why not stay on Harbor & walk to the parks?

What nights are you planning on spending?

Have a great time planning a visit to Walt's park. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the comments

Is MM available everyday for resort guests? We have 5 day parkhoppers that have one MM available.

Hamption is on Harbor Blvd so fairly close and "free" as I am using Hilton Reward points.

DLH slightly more than PP (about $20)

We are coming from ATL area and are going to be there Saturday thru Tgiving Day.

I guess I am just trying to find out how regulars feel about staying "on property" vs off. From a WDW perspective, staying "on property" is so much better than staying off that it really adds to the trip. The price for the hotel was better than expected and I am tempted to switch and save my points for another time. KWIM?

MM is on Sun/Tues/Thurs/Sat. Resort Guests can enjoy MM all days (including day of check in AND check out).

MM is easier to enjoy your first day (time difference) plan for this.

Unlike WDW, where 98% of Disers would stay "on site", it's about 40% here. Fewer hotels available & nice off site options have many of us staying walking distance on Harbor.

Less "immersion" on Harbor vrs. the DLR hotels...but to me the added benefit of extra MM has more to my "it might be worth it" comment than the immersion factor, especially if it's going to be as crowded as it might be that week...& the extra MM feature has caused me to stay onsite twice (but I've also stayed on Harbor 3 times as well).

After you read HG's threads you'll have alot of perspectives shared on your questions.

AND IF ANYONE ELSE IS READING THIS....WHERE IS THE HAMPTON IN RELATION TO THE CROSSWALK??

its actually in Garden Grove and quite a ways down..there is no way you would want to even consider walking it...truth be told its only a little over 2 miles but as we all know, there are so many stop lights and traffic on that st. it takes a bit to get there...if you know where target is on Harbor its close to there

Good info. :thumbsup2

Given the above i wouldn't want to stay there during a non-busy week (& be forced to use the ART). But during Thanksgiving week, there's NO WAY IN HECK i would stay there.

So the choice would be (imo) a hotel (which may or not be available for a reasonable value) at the crosswalk.....or one of the two DLR hotels listed.

For me....if i had kids, i'd go with the DLH (more kid friendly).....if i didn't have kids with me, I'd stay at the PP (as i like the location for taking breaks since you just walk thru the GCH lobby in & out of the DCA).

based on me looking at where you have stayed at in WDW and because of your comment on the resort snobbery lol....you may not have any issues at all if you stayed on site but then again you may very well be disappointed being that this is your first time to DL and what you have become accustomed to from other resorts...dont misunderstand me here...I absolutely love DLH because you are immersed in disney 24-7 when staying there but I am also a DL vet who has stayed on site many times in all 3 properties and know what Im up against...if you decide to stay at DLH then ask for the Magic Tower...it is the tower where the store and lobby are...I know there are quite a few people who may disagree with me but I dont like the Dreams Tower...it always seems to be where people who are disappointed and claim its not worth the money end up staying and personally its a different feel for me altogether...it just doesnt have that "something":confused3

I went back and checked the map. It doesn't seem that far away but based on your comments, it doesn't sound like getting there and back will be that much fun.

We will have kids so DLH may be a better choice. It is also a bit of a sentimental favorite as I lived in Santa Ana from 70-78. Could hear the fireworks every night from my house.

Staying onsite at Disneyland isn't quite as important as at WDW though if I could afford it I would do it each time. There are many places just across the street that are fine and much less money but the feeling of being in a Disney hotel is still strong at the DLH and PP as well as the Grand Californian. I love the Disneyland hotel because most of the rooms are quite large but it does have a bit of a dated feel because the towers were built in the 60's and 70's which turns some people off. While there are many nice places down Harbor Blvd I think it is much better to stay across the street where the motels have the same proximity as the Beach Club does to Epcot...well some of them are actually closer.

oh I misunderstood...I thought this was your first time to DL so thats why I made the comments about the hotel  scratch above comment :thumbsup2

I just have a question...do you always stay at WL in WDW? the reason I am asking is because of your comment on the resort snobbery lol....basically the on property hotels DLH and PP are nowhere near the extent of what is at WL...the closest thing you would get is staying at GC...in fact it makes me wonder if you stayed on site you may very well be disappointed being that this is your first time to DL and what you have become accustomed to from other resorts...dont misunderstand me here...I absolutely love DLH because you are immersed in disney 24-7 when staying there but I am also a DL vet who has stayed on site many times in all 3 properties and know what Im up against...if you decide to stay at DLH then ask for the Magic Tower...it is the tower where the store and lobby are...I know there are quite a few people who may disagree with me but I dont like the Dreams Tower...it always seems to be where people who are disappointed and claim its not worth the money end up staying and personally its a different feel for me altogether...it just doesnt have that "something":confused3

Actually, we normally stay in our travel trailer at Disney Fort Wilderness Resort not actually WL. My comment is based around that I really have gotten spoiled by staying at Disney resorts. We have stayed in our own RV, value resort, to the Grand Floridian so have experienced it on several different levels. The main thing I am talking about is the immersion factor and the Disney difference.:snooty: This is also probably our one and only trip as a family so that is weighing pretty strongly in favor of switching to DL hotel.:scared:

I definitely agree...if you can, go for it...

Well, for all intensive purposes it seems like my first time. While I went to DL many times during those 8 years, I never stayed on site and it was only the DLH and DL at the time.

Thanks to everyone as this is really helping me get some perspective (and a little arm twisting to stay on site:rolleyes1 ).

We have stayed at both PP and DLH. Out of the two I prefer the DLH it's closer and the theming is so spectacular. It is older but that never seems to matter to me. The grounds are beautiful.

Here are the waterfalls.

And here is the pool.

Given all of your comments (& given the extra MM priviledges which would come in handy on Thanksgiving week), I think you'd prefer the DLH. (or if there's a $40+ per day difference...the PP)

Your travels would be:

- Walking thru a smallish DTD to the DL or DCA gates... or
- Taking the Monorail in or out of DL....or
- Walking thru the GCH lobby (from DCA) & then a short walk to your hotel.

Immersion...Baby.

& MM each day available. :dance3:

& no STINKIN' buses. :thumbsup2

:)
