First off, Welcome To The Dis!

Im probably in the minority on this one, but for what we are looking for, we prefer the values to moderates. Weve stayed at POR 2x then ASMO 3x, and I would have a hard time going back to a moderate. I definitely see a huge advantage in the deluxe hotels, but between the value & moderates I dont see much. The money saved is just an added bonus. ;)

I think you have a good point there. We have stayed at Caribbean beach twice as well as Port orleans riverside (dixie landings ). As well as All-star sports and music twice each ..what drives me most crazy is that it seems to take longer to go to each bus stop in the moderate resort then it does to go to the furtherest Park. Don't think the atmosphere/room is that big of a difference either. Think I will probably go value -maybe see how Pop century is/ Holding old hope that they run specials for swan/dolphin. last year we stayed 2nd week of Sept for $99 with room facing epcot/boardwalk. Plus they ran something at thanksgiving for $129 a night.

I have stayed at Contemporary, POFQ & now we will be staying at the ASMo.......The $$ we save will be wonderful. We realized that as our children get older, we are in the room less. They like to stay at the parks until they close or after! :) It all depends on how much time you plan on staying in your room.

As for the bus taking FOREVER. I am a control freak. I heard that if you are staying on property then you can park at the parks at no charge, is that correct? If so, then we will be driving to ALL the parks. I hate waiting on buses.

Hope :hyper:

I have been told (and read) that if you stay at a WDW resort that you can park at the theme parks for no additional charge. We are travelling with children (and heaven help me, a stroller) so we plan on driving to all of the parks with the exception of MK. We will take the resort bus to that one because the resort buses drop you off near the MK and not at the TTC. I figure waiting for a resort bus isn't as bad a waiting for a tram in the parking lot and the monorail or ferry.

If you go with a value, I definitely wouldn't choose AsSports. We stayed there for one night before checking into AKL and it was soooo loud. Tons of teenagers everywhere - we might not have noticed this much except for that I'm a high school teacher and I didn't want to spend my spring break with teenagers! The room was really small. We didn't hate it, just didn't really care for it. We would definitely go with a moderate over a value anytime.

The Dolphin is going for $139 a night if you fit one of several special rate categories (Teacher, AAA, gov't, military, etc) and is considered a delux resort. I would give it a look before I settled for something less. :D

With an AP you won't get an additional (in addition to AAA) discount, but you can get either..whichever is the better deal and available.
That said, we go back and forth from values to POR. Hubby loves POR (as do I), and really prefers not to stay at values..because of all the kids, and lack of shade near the pool..we can always find shade at POR. Pop didn't seem to have as many kids (or noise), or maybe because it was cold and we weren't swimming, it didn't seem so crowded or noisy. POR always seems peaceful for us, and we love walking around the area and over to PO-FQ from Riverside. When grands come, they prefer not to stay POR, and want to stay at any of the values..we usually pick Music (before POP was done) because it's not AS noisy as the other two. The grands like having all the kids..and they especially like the cheerleaders (and of course, we don't LOL).
I like the two sinks, the slightly larger room, but those reasons don't make me pick POR over ASStars...it's the noise that does it..or lack there of.

I'd rather slide down a razorblade waterslide into a pool of lemon juice than stay at a value resort. No, that's too exaggerated, but my parents stayed at a value resort thinking they were cleverly saving money and were so put off by the children and teens everywhere and the loud noise, they vowed never again. Now my dad doesn't even want to stay on resort ever again.

Moderate resorts are lovely and well themed. Much as you would like to think you'll stay in the park all day, my husband and I enjoy jumping in the hottubs to chat with other couples in the evening hours (Every night can't be a Pleasure Island night). MODERATE all the way!
