SO if I purchase a stay and scream ticket...will I have to stand in the stay and scream section until 6:30 when HHN opens...or can I ride rides at universal studios until that time? The park closes at 5pm so would I have to stand there an hour and a half?>

You're in the holding area for about 45 minutes. The first house opens around 5:45pm. You're able to get a jump start before the main gates open.

You won't have to stand for an hour and a half :)
The stay and scream chordoned off area is has access to Finnegan's. You can grab a meal or a drink and chill and sing along to the live music before the event starts.
It's quite fun... and no, you won't be able to wander off and ride the attractions...

Cheers!

you are let out of the stay and scream holding area when security gives the clearance the park has been cleared.

a couple of times we were let out at 5:30.
usually, you are let out by 6:00 at the latest.

Usually you can have two houses down and be near the front of the line for the third by 6:30. Trust me, being able to knock out three houses early is a huge advantage.

The problem I've had with eating at Finnegan's during S & S is a slow wait person. We weren't released on time because we were waiting for the check and by the time we paid, there was already quite a line for the S & S house. So...I won't be eating there during S & S again.

Its always a hoot at Stay& Scream!

We did Finnegan's too and had the same problem with the slow table service. We shouldn't have been surprised the place was PACKED.

The thing we had trouble with was that it was the very first weekend last year and no one at the turnstiles had any idea what I meant by Stay and Scream and were trying to talk us into going to the other park for the day. But I give them a LOT of credit here because instead of just assuming we didn't know what we were talking about, the guy managing the area went to the main office there and came back with the correct information.

Next time I'd probably do Finnegan's again, but we'll get there a lot earlier. It is fun to people watch the hard core HHN people hanging around.

My wife last year , making her debut at Finnagans.

Shes a great singer in her own mind.

i watched it.
looks like she had a grand time.

she is now a celebrity here!!!

i thought it was great!

If I may boast a little ;) and offer some advice, I used Stay and Scream last year and was able to knock out four houses and be in line for a 5th by 6:30... and that was on Friday and Saturday nights! That shows how invaluable S&S is. This was my touring plan, if anyone is curious. Starting from the New York holding area:

Soundstage #22 (first house that opens near New York- this is by Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit)
Soundstage #23B (#22 exits near here, this is near Mummy. Opens at 6:00)
Parade Building (Kidzone)
Sprung Tent #2 (Kidzone- PB exits next to this)
Sprung Tent #1 (next to Men in Black- Sprung #2 exits near this)
JAWS Queue
Disaster Queue
Soundstage #23A (will be located between #22 and #23B)

If you move quickly, your longest waits will be for the last two houses, which should be around 30-35 min. each. However, I have heard on Horror Night Nightmares that some of the houses (most notably the Tents) will be exiting in different locations this year, so this plan may not be as effective. I plan on asking around once the event starts to see if I need to tweak it. Hope this helps!

nice plan.

but, some years there are houses that do not open until 7.....or a bit after.

i tried for that one year for the tent houses and had to wait for openings there.
did S&S and went for the back route where it is usually dead until 8:00

7:00? Ouch! Thank you for the warning, I didn't know that could happen. In the same vein, my plan doesn't work so well if Universal lets your holding area out late and opens the gates at the same time (like they did to us that Sunday :headache:). Still, it's good to have a plan, even if you run into a snag like that.

i know.
i was disappointed, well, rather i was disgusted when that happened to me.

once opening weekend is over, you will read about any delay openings on the houses.

hhn officially opens at 6:30 for the general public.
some house can open at 7:00, or minutes later..........:rolleyes1

i'm sure someone will post about which houses have the delayed entry.
then you can revise your plans.

many that come in through the main gate at 6:30, do go straight to the back tent houses.
but then, that line outside the gate starts before 5:00.
peeps coming in have to go thru the metal detectors which will slow the line down.

if you don't get in the line until about 6:15, it will be a wait for you to clear and be in the park. in that case, go to the back of the park for tent houses...

i know you stated you will be in the holding area but thought newbies might revise your plan if they come in thru the main gate at opening time.

Based on the schedules in past years, I would beeline for the Jaws house (Saws & Steam this year???) as soon as you finish the soundstage houses. That one always tends to be busy, I think because its lonely position and the Bill & Ted crowds. After that, if you double back to Disaster house, it still shouldn't be that busy, just leaves the tent houses and parade building, which take a lot longer to build up lines.

The latest a house opens is 6:30pm. The only reason I'd see why a house would open at 7pm would be because of technical difficulties.
