We are cruising next month and noticed that about 2 weeks ago, DCL moved us from one room to another room, next door.
We originally booked a non-connecting room and were moved into a connecting room. There are other people booked in the connecting room....

Our travel agent told us that DCL has been doing this with other passengers...

Has this happened to you recently?

It seems odd that DCL is doing this, mainly because they are only cruising at 1/3 capacity (or so)....

It hasn’t happened to me, but I think I saw someone else post the same thing recently.

I would be so annoyed if they did this to me…I spend a ridiculous amount of time choosing my stateroom, reading reviews, etc. because I’m super sensitive to noise and try to find as quiet a location as possible. Sorry this happened!

Happened to several people on our fantasy cruise in a couple weeks. Disney did not budge in moving them back to the original stateroom.

I think it’s balancing out the lifeboats, balancing out the staffs duties etc, if they want to let the rooms ‘rest’ between cruises, equal wear/tear etc- when you are using only about 1/3rd of your inventory constantly, rotation becomes more important than when you are using 7/8th or higher each week..

Nothing is guaranteed and I’ve always found the rooms assigned by DCL to be overall nicer /better than the ones I’ve picked based on what I thought was important…

This happened to me on my Oct 9th cruise. I had a non-connecting room and they switched me to a connecting room right next door. My TA called and they switched me back to my original room. A day later, they switched me to a room two doors down from my original room. Disney said my original room is being serviced or something like that. :confused3

All 4 of our cabins got changed a few weeks ago.....no one told us. We just noticed when looking at plans. Even the TA wasn't told.
We got moved up a floor.

He was told maintenance.....or crew is using the area for their rooms to help with distancing.

They are probably trying to prevent Legionnaires disease which can occur in the pipes if the rooms aren’t being used, by rotating the staterooms it help prevent this.

I think this could be problematic. Sometimes people need a connecting room, joint party, and sometimes they can't have a connecting room, ie guests that don't understand how it works or noise. Hopefully, they will accommodate people that really have a need.

Oh man, moving a single room would be one thing, I can live with that with the new Covid-19 realities. But moving connecting to not-connecting is not okay -- so many disney families use connecting rooms to keep the door open and make sure their kids are safe overnight (and that teens are not up to midnight mischief ;) ).

Though if Disney decides to do this as a pixie dust thing and move me to concierge, I won't complain :tink:

The worst part is that there’s no notification. I happened to log in and saw the room changes. Fortunately, my TA was able to get us what the CM said we’re the only available connecting rooms in our category (4E). If I didn’t see it as quickly as I did, we may have been out of luck.

I think Disney operates the same system as airlines do. If you are all in the same booking or there is a mention of multiple bookings, then they will keep you together when they have to move people around.

Due to covid this must be all a manual job to move people to another stateroom, so when they see a booking with 2 rooms and connecting rooms booked with kids in there, there is no reason to assume that the CM will split up the party. They will then look if there are other connecting rooms available.

They split us up with no notice.

You can always try to move it again. My last cruise I moved my room a week before I left. Same category so no fees. I had a gty 5E booked and was assigned deck 6 (obstructed flag). I noticed there were other rooms still open so my TA moved me to deck 8. It didn’t seem to be an issue. This was on the Dream in September.

Though somewhat scary, I love learning information like this!

Were you all in one booking?
To my knowledge DCL doesn’t do multiple staterooms on a single reservation. Each stateroom is a separate reservation number. Each stateroom must have an adult booked in it, regardless of where people actually sleep.

Except Legionaire's Disease is spread through the air conditioning/ventilation system so it doesn't make any difference if a cabin is used or not. The air is always on.

the bacteria spreads through mist, such as from air-conditioning units for large buildings.
