We are thinking of reserving an inside stateroom on one of the higher decks and would like to know who likes to be aft and who likes to be forward and why? How noisy (engine noise) is the aft section?

Thanks everybody!!! :D :p

We have been midship once and aft twice and I did not notice any difference. Been on Decks 5,6 and 7 and no difference. Always had a veranda room so don't know if they are differenet than inside cabins for motion/noise etc but I wouldn't think so.

Hi!

Been forward and Aft.

Forward positves:
More predictable motion. (Mostly up and down)
Close to Kids clubs, Adult pool, Spa.
IF you ge an outside stateroom, and the weather isn't too hot, you can leave the outside door open at night and hear the bow wash :). (though they do request that you not do this) VERY Relaxing.

Negatives:
More noticible motion
Farther from the food ;) (this could go in the plus column)
Tends to be noisier(hallway/people noise)

Aft positives:
Less motion
Closer to food
Closer to Mickey Pool
Closer to the coveted Aft Deck 7

Negatives:
Motion tends to be less predictable, often fishtail like.
Can be noisy, but has never been too bad. You kind of get used to it, like white noise.

These are just MHO. The milage you get may vary. Either way, though, a very nice ride. Enjoy!

definitely aft...closer to all the good stuff...also aft elevators are least used

This past cruise we were forward (7524) and absolutely LOVED the location. We do not have children and spent a lot of time at the adult pool, which is a hop, skip and jump from 7524. I think we found our favorite cabin!!!

We like being aft because it is very close to the Mickey's Pool and Beach Blanket Buffet. I like to bring my buffet breakfast back to my cabin to eat on the verandah.

We were aft and loved it..we had the handicapped room right next to the "secret" deck 7....there was a bit of noise when we docked but otherwise it was fine (we sleep with a white noise machine anyway!)

Another vote for AFT here. Deck 5 is a real great place to be - close to everything and yet away from a lot of noise!

And yes, I do have my favorite stateroom but I don't think I want to share! Too bad I can't just move there permanently!!!!

AFT AFT AFT AFT AFT!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
I'm not shy about sharing my favorite stateroom, which is 5650...it's as far aft as you can get on deck 5, but it's a Cat. 6. When we stay in an inside stateroom, it's typically a secret porthole room so it's pretty far forward. No big problems with those, but there seems to be more hallway noise, since they are located at the head of a dead-end hall, and some overhead noise depending on our upstairs neighbors. But forward is very convenient, and the forward elevators are rarely crowded (the aft elevators aren't either...midship seems to be the bad ones).
My preference for aft is because there is little or no hallway noise (5650 is perfect, as it's the last stateroom and there aren't even any rooms across from it). You can hear some engine noise while at sea, but I find it extrememly soothing (I too sleep with a white noise machine). You get side thruster noise and vibration when docking, but that's my "wake-up call" on port days.
On our upcoming Western, we will be in an inside deck 6 aft stateroom (booked too late to get a secret porthole)...I chose it because we can run up the stairs to the deck 7 aft verandah, but there won't be hallway noise from people going to that verandah. This will be our first time aft & inside, so I'll report on it in early June.

We were aft on deck 7, and disembarkation day, you could really feel the vibration and hear the noises! It was the only day that it woke me up (which, was a good thing, as it gave me a reason to get out of bed, get off the ship, and get to the airport!) LOL, but, I'd still choose aft. It's so nice back there, only downfall is that you can't see the ocean when sitting down, which would probably be a big downfall to some.
