First, are the light switches on the inside of the bathroom or the outside? If someone has to go in the middle of the night, will everyone else get a blast of light when the light in the bathroom is turned on?

Second, do the bathroom doors remain closed when not in use (particularly at night) or do you leave them open, like you would in a land hotel/at home?

I'm thinking of bringing some electric candles for midnight bathroom stops, so there's enough light to do your business, but not enough to wake the whole room. I'm also concerned about finding the bathroom in the dark at night, so thought the candles would be ideal (like a night light in the bathroom), but it's pointless if the doors have to remain closed (or suffer the banging through the night).

Light switches are on the outside, but I've never been bothered by a "blast of light" when the bathroom lights are turned on and the door opened. The way the bed is positioned in relation to the bathroom doors limits how much it would bother anyone.

You could leave the bathroom doors unlatched, but they can swing open and shut with the motion of the seas. We usually make sure to pull them all the way shut so they don't bang in the middle of the night.

I have used the small, battery operated tea lights so my DD can find her way to the bathroom. We put the tea light, turned on, next to her bed at night.

I find the bathroom light bright when turned on. An battery operated tea light would be perfect. I hate putting the light on in the bathroom during the night. We usually keep the doors closed but you could keep them open but as said if it is rocky at all the doors will swing (same with the closet doors). You could even keep one outside the bathroom door on the floor so you know where to find the bathroom.

We left the light on in the bathroom. Even with the door closed, there was enough light that you could see to find it. When my wife went to the bathroom during the night, the light did not bother me.

The walls are metallic, so you could also stick small magnetic puck lights to the walls. One inside and one out.

We do this, but we also leave the light on in the bathroom with the door shut. You will not see a blast of light if you are in the bed.

There is a step up into the bathroom, but the floor itself is level. You could use a door stop. Not sure how well that would work, since it would need to have traction against a tile floor. And the constant (minimal) swinging of the door could work it loose.

Good point. It would be annoying in the middle of the night, too, I suppose.

What do people do during the day? Just let it bang or do you have an 'occupied code/sign'?

Well, usually, you know if someone's gone into the bathroom.

And, there's a lock on the inside of the door.

I second the glow sticks! Our youngest sort of decorated our cabin with them, looping them around the rail on her bed and other places, perfect amount of light during the night.

One halloween we had a couple actually break open (all over my rug!), so I haven't had them in awhile.

Depending on the size/quality anywhere from 4-8 hours.

If you book through Dreams Unlimited (and you did right ) they send out a care package before your trip, at least the last two times I went they did, and in both care packages they sent glow sticks. I just hung those around the door handle on the outside to see it, and then on the inside to see so I didn't need to turn the light on

Dang! Upon checking out some pictures, I now realize the bathroom doors open outward. I thought they opened inward, like land-based rooms. I see now how impractical it would be to leave the doors open when not in use.

Does anyone know why the bathrooms are raised?

That's where the pipes are. There are no gaps, like in an apartment building, between ceiling on one deck and floor on the one above.

That's what we do too - leave the light on in there so it shows under the door. It's never woken me up when my husband has opened the door during the night.

Some doors open out. Others open in. On the Magic class (oceanview room) they opened inward. On the Fantasy (verandah room) they opened out.
