Hi,
We are booked in cabin #6590 on the West Coast cruise next May. Has anyone stayed in that cabin? What did you think?
Thanks!

Lory

I sailed in 6090 (port side) on the 2/22/03 Eastern cruise, and I loved the location! It was pretty much in the exact middle of the ship, so everything was just a few flights of stairs or a quick elevator ride away. And, because it is located between the mid and aft elevators, there isn't much foot traffic past your door.

My only concern with 6590 would be that the laundry room is located almost directly across the hall (across from 6588). Thus, there will be more foot traffic as people visit the laundry room, and the heat from the dryers may sneak into your cabin. Just a thought!

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I hadn't noticed on the map that it was near a laundry room. I booked the cabin online and Disney assigned that particular cabin to us. I hope it won't be exceptionally noisy. I noticed your location is Livermore, Ca.
Is that the same town that was featured in last Sunday's edition of Extreme Home Makeover?
Thanks again,
Lory

We had 6590 on our Western cruise last October. I liked the the laundry room being close, and did not notice any noise. The downside of this cabin is that the steamer trunk is not in an indented space on the wall facing the bed so there is not much walking room between the bed and the trunk. If you look at the ship diagrams you'll notice that there is a narrow white space behind that cabin...think it must be ship's wiring...I would not take any cabins adjacent to those narrow white bars.

We didn't stay in that room but just down the hall. We found that that section of the hall gets VERY hot & humid when everyone's using the laundry room.

Lory,

Yep, it's the same Livermore. Darn, I meant to watch that episode, but obviously I forgot. I hope it was good! :D

I hope everything goes smoothly with the cabin change - I'm sure it will. I don't think the laundry rooms are marked on the Disney deck plans, though they really should be. Fortunately, it's just the kind of handy information that you pick up on the DIS! :p

We were in 6590 on the 12/6 Western last year. About four days into the seven-day cruise, something in that wall (with the trunk/indent) came loose and banged non-stop all night against our wall. We couldn't sleep at all.

The next morning, a sea day, I spent an entire morning and part of the afternoon dealing with Guest Services, trying to get them to investigate and fix it. When they said they would have to remove our cabin wall and release a bunch of dust into our room, we realized we had to put up with the noise or move mid-cruise. We chose (?) to move and they upgraded us to a Cat4 (from Cat6). Big whoopee, for two days.

We lost more than a 1/2 day of our cruise and they compensated us with $200 for our "minor inconvenience," noting that the upgrade was worth so much. I disagreed that the upgrade was worth anything, because we were moved to 8000, which was a far worse location, and because we had a bunch of confusion around tipping our different cabin stewards, because we had to pack with an infant, etc. But they acted like it was a big gift! Anyway, my prime satisfaction came from the idea that at least the next cruisers in 6590 would not have to deal with that.

But until the very last person we dealt with at Guest Services, everyone else was a total idiot, no one knew what to do, who had already been called, what had already been done, and miraculously, everyone whom I'd spoken to previously (I kept names) was "on break" or "off duty" whenever I called, so I had to keep telling the entire story from scratch.

So, yes there are some large wiring conduits that run through that wall, and it is a quiet room as a result because you're separated from the room next door, except if something goes wrong. It's close to the laundry but the only slightly annoying part about that was the immense heat and steam that poured out of the laundry room every time we walked by.

Wow! I am definitely calling and changing the cabin #! Has anyone ever done that? Will that be a problem with Disney?

AprilN: It was a great episode!
