Okay, last night (like 9:00 pm est) I called Reservations to check prices and book a room. I am on the phone with the reservations agent (from the 407 wdisney #) and the guy says to me....

"You do know not to walk about your room in any state of undress with the curtains open correct?"

What the heck? Then he tells me he's not being gross, don't do it, or you might show up in someone else's vacation photos and on the internet naked.

Okay, so know I am freaked out. Someone help? What is all this about? He even told me I would see signs regarding this all over AKL? I can't recall seeing this ever mentioned here on the Dis.

There are security cameras at AKL and I think there is a sign in the room about it, but both times we have stayed at AKL, they told us at check-in to make sure our curtains were closed while dressing due to the security cameras. As I recall, the cameras are to watch for people feeding the animals or tossing something where it shouldn't be.

I was wondering if they also mean that due to the low lighting in the rooms others might be able to see into your room.

The CM really was giving you an important tip.

People get excited apparently when there are animals outside their window. When we stayed at the AKL there was an older gentleman who came outside in his underwear, you know the all white cotton knit stuff, took his seat and proceeded to watch the animals. This was at feeding time and there were quite a few - he came rushing out excitedly. I know because his balcony was close to ours - I was already out there. I was a bit shocked, then amused. I wonder if he meant to do that or was just overwhelmed by the sight of giraffe, zebra and cattle under his balcony?

Of all the resorts we have stayed at - I have seen more people hanging out on the balconies and/or have their curtains open at the AKL. Lots of people are taking lots of pictures with zooms - we did! I can see how something could unintentionally end up in a photo.

BTW, I was walking by the clown pool at BWV's and happened to see a woman in nothing but her underwear because the curtains were open in a ground floor unit. This was at night with her unit's lights on so it was quite obvious - I'm not spying on people really! Nothing to be freaked out about. Just remember about these things - you aren't in your own home! :)

I made this mistake last August. We had a ground level room along the beach at the Polynesian and I did not realize when I was in the bathroom changing from the pool that someone must have opened the curtain to look at the view and left it open. I walked out of the bathroom with nothing on and was looking right out to the path between the beach and the room. I don’t think anyone was going by but if they were they would have seen way too much!!!

I do remember the issue at the AKL is because of the cameras. There was even one screwed to the side of our corner room. You never know what they will do with what they record.

Aloha

Steve

Ditto for on cruise ships while in port. While walking along the deck on the Magic with my children, we saw an unfortunate sight in a room on the Explorer of the Seas ship RIGHT next to us. Uh Oh!

:) That's funny Tikiman.

I think it probably happens a lot. At the AKL with that horseshoe shape to the building and the animals out in the middle somewhat - photos being taken could easily catch something in a room across from you.

Really it's mentioned to protect your privacy - just something to be aware of, not something to scare you.

To remind you while you're at AKL...there is even a sign on the sliding door to your balcony to remind you to close your curtains.

I've stayed at AKL many, many times and the CMs have never told me to close the draperies when undressing. I don't have a huge problem if someone were to see my in my boxers, but I'd have a huge problem if someone was looking at my wife. I don't think she'd be thrilled either! Funny thing is that I've seen the signs about the cameras (although I didn't see the sign on the balcony door) and never put two and two together! I'm going to bring it up with the front desk when we're there in 3 weeks. Thanks for the tip!

We were told about the cameras by the bellman who brought our bags to the room. He said they have cameras to keep an eye on the animals and make sure nothing is being thrown from the balconies. We never closed the curtains, I just changed in front of the vanity. That is out of view of the windows.

Maybe with all the Animals and the Beautiful setting too many people are getting that back to Nature Feeling! :earseek:

Whewww~! I feel better! I thought I had a pervert cast member making my reservations! I will remember to close the drapes. :) Thanks all!!!
