State not happy with Port Canaveral Expansion Plans, may cut funds.

Love the politics. As if the port isn't big enough for both industries.

As NASA programs wound down, the expansion of cruise business would have been a welcome economic boost. I guess private space activity, not even a consideration years ago, gets a pass to the front of the line.

I hope Musk money is big and long lasting.

Does Port Everglades have more space for berths and terminals? Fort Lauderdale offers a reasonable and close airport and lots of hotels. Perfectly capable of being a better option for cruises.

DCL with its cruise and theme park concept is the cruise line that is most tied with using PC. Does MCO rely on cruise tourists to keep he planes coming in?

We now have the "SPACE FORCE" in play since it is an official branch of the US Armed Forces.

If the space industry really needs port space in Florida or Georgia, the federal government can get involved. I doubt this is the case. There are several other ports, including those used by the military, in the region.

If you look at google maps of the port there is a large area on the north side near the mouth of the port that is already used by the military.

If I read one article correctly it has something to do with dock space and LNG deliveries, not land area.

Our friend is a volunteer tour guide for the space force in Port Canaveral and he took us on a private tour of that area. It is massive. Miles and miles of just brush and old launching pads. we got to go into a launch bunker that hasn't been changed since one of the early launches....the computer was the size of a truck and it had pull out cigarette ashtrays! During a launch about 50 people would cram into one of these bunkers and be smoking while waiting for the launch. the windows are 16 panes thick. It was unbelievable. We also got a tour of the lighthouse on the property. There is a visitor center open to the public right past the entrance to the Disney terminal. After that is the secure military base that you need to be escorted on that we toured. They also renamed Patrick Air Force Base to Patrick Space Force Base.

ship parking is already at a premium in Port Canaveral. One of the chunks of 'cargo pier' proposed for development into a new cruise terminal is mostly occupied by Space-X vessels used in their water landing and recovery operations. If this becomes a cruise terminal, the commercial stuff needs a new parking place and PC is running out of room FAST. I believe this is the State's issue: wanting to support SPACE industry versus tourist. So far as using other ports in Fl for space work .... you are not going to bring a sea landed Falcon Rocket into Jax or Palm Beach Or Lauderdale and move it by truck back to Canaveral for processing and launch. I'm not saying I agree with the argument, but may have a bit more insite as to what the concern is.

Aren't they also working on a new berth on the south side of the port? Somewhere along the area where the restaurants are?
