Starting to wonder if this is going to be weird...

So, I got married last June (2010), but couldn't afford a honeymoon. We just stayed at a local hotel for a couple of days, and planned on doing a big honeymoon in the future.

We have been saving up now, and are finally looking forward to our honeymoon in December, staying at POR, splurging on the DxDP. But I'm starting to feel like it's going to be really weird to be celebrating our honeymoon when we've been married over a year. I wasn't planning on getting the Just Married buttons, maybe just getting the "I'm Celebrating" buttons, or maybe the Happily Ever After buttons....and maybe it's just my uber-honest personality speaking here, but I'm afraid that I'm misleading people if I mark all my reservations with the fact that this is my honeymoon.

Anyone else out there that did a delayed honeymoon that can reassure me that this will be a good honeymoon trip? :confused3

So, I looked it up and one of the definitions of honeymoon is:

any period of blissful harmony

Honestly, I don't think you are misleading anything. You are celebrating a loving relationship and marriage. If you want to call it a honeymoon, I say go for it! You're celebrating a period of blissful harmony together!

Go on your honeymoon, get a button and the best time of your lives!

You deserve it and no, you are not misleading anyone.

Don't worry! As a cast member, we love seeing buttons like that! I honestly always asked couples "How long have you been married?" and when they replied longer than a few days [and up to ten years!] I was like "Awesome! You get to experience a honeymoon in the best place! Make sure it's worth the wait!"

Enjoy! Go have fun :)

Go For It! Get the bridal ears and everything! Just because it couldn't be immediately after your wedding doesn't mean you should have to miss out on any of the experiences! :thumbsup2

Aww it won't be weird sweetie!! It will be wonderful and magical!!! I say go for it!!

It's funny that you posted this, I have been perusing the Wedding Board hoping maybe I can get some ideas for our 10th Anniversary trip (in January 2012 when our Anniversary is in December 2011). I want to go all out, because we didn't get a honeymoon, we got a few hours the evening after our wedding, the next day we spent with DH's mother, Step father, sister, brother and his GF.

When asked I do tell that it is our 10th Anniversary, or the honeymoon we never got.

We have been to Disney, may times, but never really had the opportunity to celebrate the right way and never really been anywhere else for more than a night or 2 and I don't count that.

I think it would be cute to get the Just Married buttons and write on them "10 years ago" or something cute. We will either do that or get the Happy Anniversary one and write 10 years on it.

Go for it! I changed jobs between setting my wedding date (for my first wedding) and the actual wedding, so I didn't have time off from work to take a real honeymoon right away. We delayed until I had the time, and quite a few people said that they thought it was a nice idea, to delay the honeymoon until after all the wedding craziness had subsided. Plus, I had all my thank you notes for the wedding written before the honeymoon, so it was a real relief to come home and not have any loose ends from the wedding. So, I think you might actually be able to explain that you were being quite practical and not weird at all -- you arranged things so that your honeymoon could be truly relaxing. Have a great time.

Oh my gosh - you will have a great time!! And congratulations on your wedding AND honeymoon! We got married in December of '08 and didn't do our honeymoon till the following September - we got the buttons, the bride & groom ears, everything, and it was absolutely magical!

Do it!! It won't be weird at all. Get the buttons, wear the ears.. have a blast!

dooooo itttt :-)

My fiance and I are getting married in disney in 7 weeks!! We will be there for a few days after the wedding...but so will all our family and friends. We aren't calling that a honeymoon and instead, we are going on a cruise in January. Just us. To celebrate our love in the big blue romantic world!!

Delayed honeymoons are becoming more and more popular. Especially with the economy the way it is. People need a financial break after spending big bucks on the wedding itself :goodvibes

Honestly, I'm glad we are waiting. Even though we already live together, and have for over a year, have three fur-kids and are settled into our every day lives, it will give us a chance to soak in the "we are MARRIED" life style and get back into the swing of things instead of having to worry about leaving from the wedding, catching planes, blah blah blah.

ANnnnnnnnnyway lol, sorry i just took this and made it all about me. I'm really sorry lol all in all, you and your husband DESERVE to celebrate your love and have a real honeymoon. DO IT! and tell everyone its your honeymoon and buy the ears and make the restaurant reservations and ENJOY it! It will be magical :cloud9:

Yep, go for it and don't be ashamed! Our honeymoon will be delayed as well, at least a year.

Add me to the list of "Go for it!" It won't be weird - you'll be with your honey - how can that be weird?

My DH & I celebrated 20 years with a VR in April. We had the "Happy Anniversary" buttons that the resort gave us, then we got the "Just Married" buttons while at Epcot (because we told a CM that we were renewing our vows at the wedding pavilion). So naturally we put both buttons on - :rotfl: - talk about strange looks from not only guests but some CMs too. But it was a lot of fun explaining!

All our friends tease us that we've been on our honeymoon since we got married - and that we still act like newlyweds. :lovestruc I say "what's wrong with that?"

So get the buttons, go on your belated honeymoon and have the time of your lives!

Go and HAVE A BLAST! No matter when you got married this is your official honeymoon, even if it's a year after your wedding. :-)

I love the Happily Every After buttons, they'd be perfect for your honeymoon.

I think for showing fiscal responsibility and holding off on your HONEYMOON, you should have two pins each AND the Bride and Groom Ears!!!!!

Go for it!!!

Thank you ALL for your words of encouragement and support! I really appreciate it!

I am feeling much better about the trip now, and am actually getting more excited!! Yay!! Thank you all!!! :grouphug:

My husband is a former Marine, and when we got married, he wasn't able to take time off... They have to go through a huge amount of paperwork and such in order to get time off! Plus, we had just spent our honeymoon budget buying furniture for our home.... The point of this story is, we got married in May and went to Disney in September on our honeymoon! We got our buttons, the wedding ears - because delayed or not it was our honeymoon! Y'all have fun, and congrats:)!!

Like everybody else said please do it! For various reasons we had to delay our honeymoon for over a month. We went back down to disney to celebrate and even wore our just married buttons since we only had one day to wear them after the wedding. We had the best time and all of the cast members were amazing.

I'm actually glad we waited because we were so much more relaxed with all of the wedding stress long behind us and no relatives (best part).

Have an amazing time!!!

I'm a military fiance and delayed honeymoons are quite common in military relationships because of issues with taking leave. Just about everyone I know who is a military wife has had a delayed honeymoon

They are also becoming a lot more popular for non military couple, especially since a lot of couples are now deciding to pay for their wedding themselves, and so they need to extra time to save for the honeymoon.

I say do whatever makes you happy. Just like everyone deserves the wedding of their dreams, everyone deserves the honeymoon of their dreams too. No matter how long it takes :)
