Starting to rethink my resort choice. CBR would be $46 more a night

Hi,

I was thinking that if I am going back to the resort in the afternoons especially during the hot days to cool off, wouldn't staying in a moderate instead of a value make more sense. I priced it out and to move from Pop Century to CBR would be an extra $45.93 a night or $367.45 total.

You guys have done this before and this is my first stay onsite, what do you think.

I've stayed at both resorts and like them for different reasons. If you're only reason for switiching is "to cool off", Pop has pools that would suit that purpose just fine. If you are travelling with kids that might want a water slide, you might want to consider a moderate.
Have a great trip!

Actually I am treating myself to a trip to WDW. Since I have never stayed onsite before, I have no idea what to expect from Pop Century and I am afraid that I might not like it.

If you are already worried that you might not like it I would say go for the CBR.
Like you said you are treating yourself and if that's more of what you want-- I say go for it!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Good for you! :cool1:
The only difference that has mattered to us about the value vs the moderate is the pools with the slide for the kids and the hottubs to relax in. We loved CBR because DH and I could relax in the hammock on the "beach" while the kids played on the playground. When planning our Dec trip, the kids both said they wanted to stay at Pop again (stayed there this time last year). They just love the theming.

That's the thing. This is all new to me. I am sure that Pop Century would be fine to crash which is part of what I am looking for, but CBR offers a few other things like water mice and stuff like that.

CBR is a great choice. You also have the quiet pools which are great for just sitting there enjoying the FL sunshine. :) They aren't as busy either.

We stayed at Pop Century and will be staying at CBR for the first time in March. We also returned to the hotel to cool off and I think CBR will have more to offer than Pop Century does. :flower1:

I've been torn between these 2 resorts myself. I'm going to go with CBR because 1) the rooms are larger and with 2 adults, a 15 (almost 16) year old and a VERY active 8 year old I think we could use the room. 2) They have an in room coffee maker (a treat for my dh, who had to go to the food court at ASMu and get this every morning in 2003 when we went) and 3) Just the over all atmsosphere- kind of like a vacation within a vacation.

Since you are torn about where to stay, have you thought about splitting your stay between the two? It looks like you are going for eight nights. Perhaps you can split it four and four or three and five. It's fun to try different resorts. Since you are willing to spend the extra dough, perhaps you could start out with five nights at Pop, and then spluge on a few nights at a deluxe (good deals can be had for the WL and AKL).

Just a thought :)

No matter what, I'm sure you'll have a great trip!

POP is kind of far away from all of the parks, whereas, CBR has a more central location (it's very close to Epcot). Also, getting on busses in my experience at POP and All Stars takes longer, you're less likely to get a seat, etc.

Don't get me wrong, the value resorts are very nice. But if given the choice, I'd go with CBR just to avoid the sea of humanity that often accompanies staying at value resorts.

If you are using the bus system I have been told POP is better, they do not
have tons of stops, nor do they share buses. I know CBR has many bus stops!
they also have a wall unit control for a/c at the POP and window units at
CBR. I cannot sleep with window type units as they are very noisy.

The food courts are about the same. The pools, yes there is not a slide,
but how old are the kids? they have a goofy sprinkler pool at POP.

here check out these photo's they helped me decide to stay at the POP.

$367 would pay for alot of sit down meals or souviners. :D

Pop is right next door to CBR! In fact they share some housekeeping. I am at least a moderate snob -- love the hot tubs, but our August stay at Pop was so good, we stayed there again for one night on my DH's extravagant birthday trip. I think Pop's transportation is ok--they are a dedicated stop--don't share with other resorts. We do prefer to drive to parks other than the MK whenever we have a rental car.

Forgot to add that $367.45 could go to a backstage tour, lunch at Le Cellier, souvenirs, drinks at PI all sorts of things.

Pop and CBR are right beside one another. In fact you can see one from the other.

I would stay at CBR as Pop just opened last April and I have read numerous things about difficulties. CBR is established and is much more relaxing.

If money is not an issue, I would upgrade to the French Quarter, rather than CBR. This is a great resort with a slide & hot tub. I love this resort, especially since it is the smallest in size for all the moderates. It's a quick walk to everything around the resort. This is my favorite moderate resort! :cool1:

Stayed at CBR in 2003 and was ready to check out the same day I checked in. Way too spread out for my taste and did not care to be walking across a dimly lit parking lot to get to or from the bus stop.

If you decide to save the $$, then I would recommend the Movies over Pop. Stayed at Pop in November and did not care for it as much as we did Movies.

If you can get a great code, think about maybe trying for a room at the Wilderness Lodge. I've seen rates as low as $109 a night and this is a fantastic resort. The pools & hot tubs are great! :cloud9:

I am also faced with this exact same dilemna. I have a DM package booked for July of this year at PC. I just got $120 credited back due to "Magical Express" being complimentary and my package had a charge for the same service. So the $300 dollars extra to go to a moderate is now down to $180.00. I'm looking at POFQ or POR moreso that CBR.

Decisions, decisions!!!

We much prefer Pop over CBR. Great food court, nice pools and very conveniently laid out. Everything is so close to whatever room they may put you in.

At CBR..depending on the building..you may end up having a long hike..or driving to the area where the pool is.

I would stick with the value resort.

I've stayed at both and like both resorts. I would also split the stay, especially if you will be there at least 4 nights.

This next trip (I'm bringing my 11yo) we're staying for 2 nights at Pop (his request) and 3 nights at POFQ (only moderate I haven't stayed at and my request). Last month (with my 5yo, my sister and our mother) I stayed at POR and Pop. Last Feb my then 4yo and I stayed at Pop for a week. Notice the trend--I keep going back to Pop.

I thought that Pop was a bit noisy in Feb, but this trip I asked for and got a lake facing room and it was much better. The price can't be beat, either!

Have fun deciding.
