Starting to panic about POTC...

Every here and there, I see messages that The Pirates are closing sometime soon...I can't imagaine a Disney trip without that ride...I think my family would revolt...Does anyone know firm dates for the closure or know where I can check?

Latest I've heard is that POTC will be closed March 6 through June 22.

OMG...this is bad, very bad...LOL. Any advice on how to break kids hearts? This is their very favorite ride from past WDW trips. We've always ridden at least 3 times...uh-oh.

Don't tell them that DL's version is a million times better, then. It really needs the rehab, plus they're supposed to be adding a lot of stuff. Now if we can just do away with the politically correct stuff, I'll be happy.

ROLF...I agree with everything you just said. I already told my DH the the DL version is better, but not my DS's yet...whew for that! (wipes forehead dramatically)
Besides, this way we'll have a reason to go back, right? Last time we went to WDW we took my sister with us...it was her first ever Disney trip and IASW was closed to get ready for the 50th...as long as a favorite ride is closed when we go, I can start planning the next trip as soon as we get home...LOL

I wish it was IASW that was closed. I know this is very UNdisneylike but I absolutely despise that ride and successfully steered my children away from it until last year when they finally rode on it. My son fell asleep.
I think it's the song that puts me over the edge. Once I get it in my head it's there forever.!

LOL...no kidding. I didn't miss IASW when it was closed in WDW...but it is true that every good Mouse fan has to try it at least once, right?
I will be excited and curious to see what they change in Pirates, tho. I agree that the over the top PC stuff should go, or at least be toned down.

We adjusted our time at DLR just so we would not miss it along with the Blue Bayou. There are a few things we do not mind missing, this is not one.

Believe me, that was my first thought...but we can't go in the next four weeks, and I try to never travel during the peak Summer hours...and I certainly can't wait till Fall!! LOL.

supposedly POTC is going to be more like the new movie. With Jack Sparrow in it about 3 times... The opening is to be the same day that the movie opens. But that is just 'rumors' that I have heard from Disney people..

The good news is that when POTC goes down, Haunted Mansion is coming back up (it opens the same day POTC closes) and they're reportedly adding some new stuff to the Mansion. I myself can't wait to see what they've done with HM and I'm sure that whatever they're doing with POTC should be good (I trust Matt Ouimet to make it good).

OH man! We are going to be there June 11 - 15. Do they ever finish refurbs early? I know wishful thinking - LOL Well I guess we will keep an eye on the refurb while we are there - I really wanted to ride Pirates - but I guess if we miss it we'll just have to plan another trip

Does anyone know where people are getting the dates for when it is going to reopen? I have seen on most websites that is will reopen on the 16th and others are saying the 21st or 22nd. I guess we will have to wait for the official website to put up its June calendar.

Oh well, when I was there in 2003 both Indiana Jones AND Space Mtn were closed. So this time I get to ride two "new" rides! And if DH likes DL, mayben I can talk him into another trip in 2007....

99% reliable is March 6, June 22..originaly had heard that it was the 6th of March to June 16th but the premiere of DMC is on the 22 of June and is supposed to take place NOS. Also heard they may close the park early and June 22 has been published as a grad nite.

We will just have to wait and see what pans out..but when it does it may be too late to get ressie's.

Here is a quote from the official press release today. Looks like the reopen date is pretty firm at this point- June 24 for DL.

Both the Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will close the attraction in March to complete the updates in time for the opening of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest on July 7. The attraction will re-open at Disneyland on June 24 and in Florida’s Magic Kingdom on July 7.
