Starting to pack - how much to bring?

Eeek! I am both scared and THRILLED that our trip is less than 3 weeks away!

I have started packing the kids' clothes (because just the thought of packing mine gives me a headache!), and I am wondering just how much I need to pack.

We are staying in a house with a washer & dryer and plan to do laundry while we are there. We are driving, so we have no real luggage space concerns (my parents are also driving, so anything that doesn't fit in our can goes in theirs).

We have to pack a separate overnight bag for us to take on the road while driving (PA to FL) with one outfit and one set of PJs per person. We will be in FL for 8 days, and then we are spending 3 days in SC before going home (no laundry facilities in SC).

I have 11 outfits for each of my boys packed. Is this too many? Just right?

This packing is certainly the worst part of the vacation planning!

Take 1/2 as much as you think you need.

I brought 6 outfits for each person, two pairs of pajamas, and underwear etc. Two swimsuits each, which was perfect...one drying, one on.

They had outfits they never even touched (the non-DISign stuff, lol)!!

The only thing I had wished I brought more of was ankle socks....even in sandals they really helped stave off sores, blisters, etc!

Wow - you must have this down to a science! I don't know if I can bring myself to only pack 6 outfits for a 12 day trip - but I think I will pare it down a little bit from the 12 I had planned (and the 4 pjs, 3 swimsuits and 2 beach towels). LOL

Thanks for the reply!

My family will be going to Disney June 14-21. We always go this time of year. I, too, have over packed in the past. Since you have a washer/dryer you do not need as many outfits. Although many times we did use 2 outfits per day we could wash in between wears. In June in Orlando you will sweat if you return to your room for the afternoon a clean change of clothes is great for returning for the evening. The one thing that I did not pack enough of is bras. :) I sweat and since bras must not be put in the dryer you really need extra while one is drying. My kids, DS & DD, wear bathing suit shorts to the parks helps on water rides, dries faster. One thing I packed last year that will be a must take is a towel. I carry a towel into the parks with me. Its a place to sit and to dry off with.

Lol...I don't really have it down to a science, but thanks! It was the first Dis trip for all of us!

I just refused to pay $15 per suitcase (NWA!), so pared it down as much as I could the night before we left!:lmao:

I STILL found that by the end of the trip there were still things that hadn't even been looked at, let alone worn! It seemed like we all grabbed the same, comfiest stuff over and over.:confused3

I wouldn't bother bringing towels...unless you need them for the waterparks? You can use twoels from your rooms at the resorts....

Good call by the other poster about bras...I do throw mine in the dryer, but I still loved having multiple ones to change into when I'd been sweating anyways...

We're going for a week and I'll take about 6 outfits. Even if we were staying 2 wks, I'd probably only pack 7 or 8. I know we'll go through 2 a day (we all sweat a lot, even my super skinny 10 yo). But we have a washer and dryer, and it's not biggie to do a few loads mid-week and another round the last night (I love coming home with clean clothes).

It's the other stuff that gets me - I already have new disney and star wars t-shirts for the boys, fanny packs, lanyards, misters, bottle holders, etc. I'll have a box of non-perishable food (I don't want to find more than the dairy and meat cases in a strange grocery store), books, games, etc.

Okay - I packed 6 pairs of shorts and 9 shirts for each of the kids. Figured it gave variety, but wasn't too much.

I do have to bring the beach towels because we're doing 3 days in Myrtle Beach on our way home. We'll have towels in FL, but not when we get to SC.

I have now managed to fit all of the kids' things in one suitcase. Thankfully we're driving, so no worries about extra baggage charges! i figure we can do a suitcase for me, one for DH and one for the beach - and we'll be good for the 12 days.

and I'll probably come back here after the trip and say we didn't wear half of what we packed! :rotfl:

Hi - In March, we went to Disney for 1 week. I have two kids, myself, and my hubby. We flew and took everything in two large suitcases and two carryon backpacks, as well as two umbrella strollers. I didn't do laundry, and we wore just about everything. I think I took about 6-7 outfits for each of us, plus a few long sleeve shirts, swimsuits, etc.

Good luck with packing--it gets easier the more you do it.
