Starting to freak out about FW stay

I'm starting to rethink our upcoming December trip. I'm sure this means I don't have enough to do with myself, but humor me and help me out of this funk before i change our plans.

I'm actually really nervous about 10 nights in tents. We will have two really good Eureka tents with lots of space in them, but I worry about weather, worry that we'll all be exhausted from the parks and won't feel rested while sleeping in the tents (although I think I'm going to invest in good aerobeds for us) I worry that one of our kids will get sick (last time our oldest was 4 and got REALLY sick with the flu for a few days.) I know that we're going to have a 17 hour drive over and back.

Not once since we changed our plans (we were originally booked at VWL) have I looked back until now. I just want us to have a great time and I'm wondering if I'm asking too much of my family.

I need a Mickey Bar RIGHT NOW.

Just bring warm blankets and a small space heater as it can get cool.

meg,
I know that feeling. You put a lot of time, effort and money into all of your plans, and you just want it all to work out. Try to relax and look foward to your trip. I am sure you will all have a great time.
;)

1) Bring lots of warm blankets/clothes, as sometimes at night it can get really chilly at the Fort.

2) Make sure you have enough "games" to play while you're around the campsite. While it is nice sometimes to just sit and talk, after 10 days it can become a bit much ;)

3) You're making the best decision by getting those Aerobeds. Make sure you have a good pump and a good patch kit. There is nothing worse than on day 3 having a leaky bed that you have to get up twice a night to refill. And I say that from experience :(

4) You ARE going to be exhausted. But that's just how Disney is. And to be honest, your Aerobeds (if you cover them with some nice thick blankets) will probably be almost as comfortable as a normal bed.

5) Oh, and that's another thing, there was a good thread about this a few months ago, about using air beds during the winter months. Some people had some great tips, I'll try to find the thread if I can, but I believe one of the tips was to put a blanket under the Aerobed, between it and the ground. That way if it is rather chilly out it the cold ground won't seep up into the aerobed.

P.S. Tried to find the thread but I couldn't, however if you do a search for air mattress or aerobed, maybe you'll have better luck :)

I found the best thing for an air mattress when electricity is available is an electric mattress pad.

Keeps that chill from creeping up on you from the air mattress.

This is a great great suggestion. :thumbsup2 I am a huge fan of electric blankets. They should work perfectly with an inflatable mattress like the Aerobed.

When I lived in Germany, we actually heated our bedroom by electric blanket only. I will just bet it will do the same for the tent.

Regards,

Sams has great king size air mattresses that zip apart to 2 twins for around $50. They have built in pumps. They are very comfortable.

Also, depending on when you go, it can be quite warm in December -- warm enough for shorts/tshirts in the evening. You'll have a great time! Enjoy.

Have faith in you're decision and you'll have fun. Definitetly buy an aero bed with a built in pump.

Thank you! I'm feeling so much better now. Thank you to the person who said we WILL be exhausted. I don't know why I hadn't really thought of that before, but we're always exhausted at WDW and it results in some of the best sleep ever.

Anyway, we're planning away and really excited!

a suggestion about the airbed...we got one that is the same height as a normal bed( double thickness basically) and it stays warmer although we put a thick mattress pad down presheet anyway. and so far every one we have had leaks at least a little so an electric pump is worth the extra money.
