I was all gung-ho when I booked my December solo trip (my first alone). As time inches nearer I'm beginning to be a little nervous about things. I don't want to be there by myself and feel awkward or sad, does that make sense? I only have counter service and one sit down planned so not too worried about that part. I guess I just wonder if it will be a downer not having someone with me to share the experience with.

I spend a lot of time alone in my normal life so I don't know why I'm over-analyzing everything. I really want this to be a great trip for me, the past several months have been rough and I'd like to really enjoy my week. I guess I'm asking for any tips to feel more comfortable with the single WDW experience and how to make the most of my time alone.

Thanks!!

When you goin? And don't let it get you down just talk to people around you .Thats what I did when alone .

DFD is right. I went on my first solo trip back in late September to early October. I will admit that it was a weird feeling.....for about 5 minutes. But by the time you enter the gates to the Magic Kingdom (or whatever park you choose) that "weird feeling" will immediately vanish by this overwhelming sense of freedom! You get to do what you want, see what you want, and do things you couldn't even think of doing in front of family and/or friends. This solo trip was such an eye opener for me that I plan on doing quite a lot more solo trips in my lifetime.

Instead of feeling nervous, get yourself excited. Big time! Look forward to the freedom and adventure you'll have. And besides, you won't be alone. The cast members are fantastic and are wonderful to talk to and the people that visit with you can be just as fun to have conversations with.

Good luck and have yourself a blast!

December 5 - 10 at POFQ

It's funny you say that, some of my best memories have been people I've met at the bar at various Disney resorts. (I'm not a lush) I just need to crawl out of my shell I guess.

you will be fine !!!!!!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Thanks so much, this makes me feel better just to read. Deep down I think I'll really like being able to do anything I want, I'm just anxious about it a bit for some weird reason.

i don't think i've ever gone truly solo but i've gone some where i was 'on my own'. My travel friends and i went our ways during the day. i LOVED my freedom to explore, dawdle, commando if I wanted. Just do what I wanted to do...not what anyone else wanted.

I think you will be glad you went. I am trying to find time to sneak away alone but having a DH kinda puts a cramp in that. I miss some things about being single. :) course, he is AWFUL nice to snuggle up to. :D

I did part of a trip solo back in March and had just as good of a time solo as I did once my friends joined me.

Having the freedom to do exactly what you want, when you want, and not have to consult with anyone else about it is AWESOME!

You will have a great time, there are so many friendly people at Disney.

Enjoy it and don't be nervous!

I'm going solo Dec 4-13 for the first time solo as well. Try not to feel nervous and please do not feel awkward or sad. If you haven't checked it out yet, check out this thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2507755

Lot of people going in Dec and many going alone. I'm going to be posting my ADRs soon on that thread and i made them all for 4 people so feel free to contact me if you want to share a meal.

I've really enjoyed my solo trips to Disneyland Paris!:) It did feel "weird" at times here and there but actually the enjoyment far outweighed any weirdness and now I think solo trips will be something I will do whenever I can. Just soaking in the creativity that is Disney at your own pace is a luxury! Have a fantastic time!:wizard:

Maryann, It is quite normal what you are feeling.

I remember my first solo trip in 2001.

I am 30 days away from my 2nd solo trip and I am getting excited! I am like you and do a lot of things on my own anyway.

My solo trips are special because I can do things at my own pace, take as many pictures as I want, have grown-up sit down dinners/food.

Once you get that first solo trip under your belt you will be fine! :goodvibes

TC:cool1:

As DFD said you will be fine :goodvibes
My first solo happened to me unexpectedly, I would have never dreamed of going to Disney solo but I had booked a vacation for me and a friend and they backed out at the last minute so I decided to go solo and it was the beginning of many more solo vacations :woohoo: There is always someone from the disboards who is going and a lot of people go that first week of December. I am going the 11-15th. The cast members go out of their way to be friendly to everyone but I think more so to the solo traveler. There were so many things I had never gotten to experience while with others. I could enjoy the park at my leisure, slow down, take pictures, eat when and what I wanted or not eat at all. Look at this as an adventure and spoil yourself while you are there with experiences you could never afford if you were with another person!!! It is a wonderful experience and if you check out the December thread and meet up with others, if only to share a ride or a drink, then it will help you to not "feel" alone! Smile, be friendly, talk to everyone in line and all of a sudden you will not feel as if you are there solo any more...
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dance3:

There may not be a better place in the universe to travel solo than a Disney Park. I was actually really disappointed when my "solo" trip last May turned into "trip to WDW with my mom." But how can you tell your 70 yr old mother, who got no vacations at all for a decade because she was caring for elderly relatives, "No, you can't come to Disney with me..."

Relax and enjoy yourself, you'll have a great time.:thumbsup2

And can you say "single rider line"...?

I am feeling the same way. My first solo trip is in 32 days . I am a stay at home mom (2 kids, 2 dogs, hubby and a pt job in reatail) who doesn't get a moments peace to myself at any point in any day, and I am waiting on someone all day long. So I decided that for my 40th bday gift I wanted to go to celebrate it in Disney...which is my happy place:love:. I couldn't find a friend or babysitter to take my hubby so I am going solo.

I am feeling very scared about flying alone (god forbid should anything happen) and also scared about leaving the little ones home alone with daddy. Daddy will take great care of them, I just feel guilty that I am going to be enjoying myself without them (we are going as a family in July and they have been there before). I am trying to talk myself out of the guilt as I do nothing for myself (the mom sacrafice) and I deserve the break!!!

I keep thinking of all the shops, shows and pictures I can take without crying, crabbing and asking to go. I also am very excited about the prospect of a meal being warm when I get to eat it...and I can stay seated throughout the entire meal!

So as scared as I am about leaving my family, I know once i get to my resort, I will be ok...then when I get through the gate and see the castle I will be crying tears of joy!!!

good luck and you can do it....new adventures are always a great thing!

Good for you. And hey, another MA-ite!

Thank you guys for the kind words and insight, I really appreciate it! You're all right, I'm sure it's going to be fine. I'm hoping to meet up with a few DISers for meals and attractions so I'm excited about that.

Thanks again for making me feel better. :thumbsup2

I see the All Ears Newsletter that just arrived is titled "Going Solo"...I think it's a sign.

Okay, I guess I'm not the only one who's done Disneyland Paris solo. While still in the airport I realized that high school French was a very long time ago.

So, the good news is that you won't have a language barrier at WDW  . I've done WDW solo three times and have number four planned for February. I certainly understand getting last minute (well, maybe not minute) jitters), but since you were originally gungho I'm sure you'll be fine.

On one of my trips I actually got to the resort, looked around, and wondered what I was doing there, remembering tired feet, aching legs, long lines, etc., but it didn't take long to shake those thoughts and relish being at WDW alone, where as everyone says, you can do what you want then you want.

ENJOY to the max!

I went on my first solo trip this year in May, it was a case of go alone or not at all as family/friends have either outgrown Disney (i.e. too old for the long flight from the UK in the case of my parents) or just had no interest.

When I booked the trip I was very excited but as the time got closer I was a nervous wreck, it didn't help of course that I don't like flying and the Iceland volcanic eruption closing UK airspace :scared1:

When I think back to being on that flight, OMG I was just a mess (!), hitting immigration I was also a mess, I had visions of being turned away for being a 'solo' female. Of course immigration let me in and the rest is history - I had a fantastic time :yay: To do exactly what you want to do when you want to do it and not consider anyone else was so liberating, I went into MK my first morning, saw the opening ceremony, which in all my visits I'd never seen, stayed a couple of hours then headed into Epcot - all at my own pace.

I've booked my second solo trip for November 2011 and it can't come soon enough.
