Starting my Fat Fast tomorrow

Well I have decided that I am metoblically challanged.
I have an appt with my Dr on Monday to get some orders for some bloodwork, specifically thyroid panels. I am hoping that is the reason why I am starting week 5 on Monday and have not lost a pound.
I did lose 6 lbs the first week, but put it back on in the next two weeks even though I am following the diet more closely these past two weeks than I did the first. I am thinking that those first 6 lbs were nothing but water retention, even though I take a water pill along with my blood pressure medication. Only got into ketosis a few days each week, maybe 3 out of the 7 on average. I check my urine every evening about 1 1/2 hours after I eat my dinner.
Tomorrow my meals will consist of 2 oz of cream cheese along with 1 oz of macadamia nuts four times during the day.
I have not reached the "not hungry" stage that you all talk about so it should be a bit of a struggle but I will try to fill up with as much water as I can.
According to the book if I don't lose some weight on the "Fat Fast for the Fat Fast" then I will need some thyroid supplements.
I am bringing my Atkins book with me to the Dr on Monday and hopefully he will help me out in some way.
My son on the other hand is doing fantastic. He has lost 67 lbs so far and has gone from a size 46 waist to a very loose 38. I tried to talk him into just getting the 36" waist because they would fit in a few days but he likes wearing loose pants for the first time since high school. I hope to get photos of him soon.
I hope to give you all some good news soon, but to tell you the truth I am getting disgusted. Peggie

PS, I am 192 lbs now size 14 is fitting tight, would love to see 150 on my scale which will be around a size 10, and I would love to see a clippie on my signature but I want to wait till that weight is REALLY gone for good.

Have you thought of trying a different way of eating? I have tried several different diets, some I have lost weight on, others I haven't. For example I went to WW with a friend of mine who did not stick to the plan, I on the other hand followed the plan religiously, my friend would lose 2-3lbs each week, I on the other hand would lose maybe half a pound, as you can imagine I soon gave up.

Now I am following my own eating plan and hopefully it is going to be successful.

Luvinit and I did it back in June! If you need any support or someone to lean on and cheer you thru, feel free to email or pm me. Day 2 is the hardest! We were both so hungry and crabby. But day three and on were fine. I would have to look back, but I think we lost 6 and 8 lbs when we did it. Since then, however, neither of us have lost much more - I'm only down 2 more and I think Tracy has had a similar experience.

It's really tough to do this on your own, we wouldn't have made it thru if we hadn't had each other. Really, I'm there for you if you need me!

I may take you up on that offer tomorrow.
I made it through today with only a minor problem. I did the 2 oz of cream cheese and some pignoli nuts for bfst and again for lunch. It was kind of tasty, I took a small amount of cream cheese on a fork and stuck it in the pile of nuts. almost a yum.
I was bored and sick of all the rain so I took a long drive to the NJ outlet mall. I love to drive so 3 hours is not too bad. I took the long way there and the short way home, it took me about 2 hours to get home.
That mall has yummy smells everywhere. Mrs Fields cookies, Aunt Sara's pretzels, Godiva chocolates. But I stuck to my water and fought the demon.
On the drive home I was actually craving my macadamia nuts that I had waiting home for me.
But tomorrow will be the 2nd day and you say the worst so I will prepare and might be sending you PM's, be ready for me.

I tried WW when my children were young. I just couldn't stick to it, I found that i had to cook for the family then cook for me. With Atkins I make meat and toss a few potatoes in the microwave for them and with a salad we have a healthy meal that everyone can eat. My family are meat and potatoes people so they love the fact that I make steak almost every other day. Peggie

Good luck today! Make sure that you get your tiny meals in on a regular basis. You aren't getting enough calories to go more than 4 hours w/o eating. Also, stick to the foods on the list! Pine nuts aren't high enough in fat for the fat fast! Another suggestion, don't eat macadamia nuts for 4 out of your five meals! You will get bored with them and they have the "benefit" of keeping you regular - um, that's very regular. . . TOO rgular if you get my drift! We really loved the chicken and avocado meal.

Is your Dr appt today? let us know how that goes!

Oh, I hope it's not too late to say GOOD LUCK!!!! Karyn and Tracy did such a great job on their fat fast - I know you can do it! I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed that you have a great loss at the end of these four days! Hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :)

Well I made it through most of today without any problems. Day two almost over, on to day 3 tomorrow.
I had the 1/2 avacodo with some chicken and mayo for lunch. I think I will stick to the cream cheese. That was so rich and full of fat that my stomach was rebelling all day. I have had gall bladder problems in the past (just pain, never anything serious) so I don't want to aggravate it.
I love the Macadamia nuts as of now, they are like eating butter and cream mixed together, my lips are greasy after I finish them.
But tomorrow I will try the chicken salad in some pork rinds, that might be a little less filling.
I do love guacamole though and boy was I tempted to make some. Peggie
 
Ummm, maybe it was too filling because it was supposed to be a 1/4 avocado and not a 1/2 avocado. One ounce of chicken is only about 1 tablespoon and that plus a tiny bit of avocado and mayo can hardly fill someone up!

I guess you are making up your own "Kinda Fat Fast" Have you been plugging these foods into fitday.com? I know pork rinds aren't part of the fast.

I found the food list in the "Atkins New Diet Revolution" book.
Here is what he reccommends for the fat fast. If you have another food list please send me the link, I would like to try that too.
I am eating 3-4 meals a day instead of 5 because I just am not hungry.

2 oz of Cream cheese3 times a day with 1 oz of macadameia nuts 2 times a day.

or for variety for each of the 5 - 200 calorie feedings:
2 oz of sour cream containing 1 tbsp of cavier served on three or four pork rinds
2 deviled egg halves served not in the whites but on pork rinds or a think slice of soya bread
Grahm Newbould's pate for Royalty (2 oz) served on soya bread
2 oz of chicken salad made with triple the usual amount of mayo (or ham salad, egg salad, shrimp salad)
1 oz of the above in 1/2 an avocado
2 !/2 oz whipped heavy cream artifically sweetened and add ground vanilla bean
and choices in the recipe section that will make up the 200 calorie per feeding.
the rest of the diet should consist of calorie free beverages taken liverally

Some of those things from the above sound terrible, I will pass on the cavier and pate, but that heavy cream sounds like it might hit the spot for a before bed snack. Peggie
 
Wow, that's a very different list than is on the website - at least some of the items! Sorry, I take it all back! We got the list we used from atkins.com and was simpler - AND less food! use the search and look for fat fast. It gave the choice of about 6 different choices for 200 calories meals. I don't know that I could have done it with those choices! I'll admit, I would need to go back and check the one w/ caviar - I knew I'd never try that so I dont know what all was in that "meal".

Today is the end of day 2 - phew! Cranky is right! and bad headaches too! I broke down and drank a diet coke for the caffiene (to help the headache) I hope it doesn't mess up the fat fast. (0 cal/0 carb/ 0 everything except sodium)

I don't like 90% of the things on the atkins list though. I'm not sure I will make it another 2 or 3 days. But it will be nice to move to step 2! I'm basically putting what I PLAN to eat into fitday to see if it meets the requirements of 200 cal with 75%-90% fat.

Any suggestions on how much tuna withOUT the advacado? I just can't stand those mushy things! taste, textue, i don't know - I just don't like advacados.

Day 2 is the absolute hardest! But, you're almost there now! You can stick it out! Sorry about how "mushy things are! But it is called a "FAT fast for a reason - ever known fat to be crunchy? Ok, I know, bacon and macadamia nuts. Bacon's out on this cause of the sodium but you can eat the mac nuts - I found them the most satisfying of all the allowed foods.

Bacon is listed on step 2
"two scrambled eggs with two strips of nitrate-free bacon" so I don't see why it would not be allowed on step 1 - certainly not just because of the sodium. (although it wouldn't hurt me to cut down on sodium! it IS one of my vices!)

I have read both the online article and the article in Atkins book and it does not say you HAVE to eat only the things listed there, but that you must eat only 1000 cal a day with 75-90% fat. So if there are other foods more palatable that fit that qualifier, it is ok. That is my interpretation of it at least. If someone knows of a place that says that list of 8 items are the only things I can eat, let me know! As for me, I do not eat animals organs (pâté), hate the taste (and cost) of caviar, and do not like advacdos. So that doesn't leave much to choose from for me :(

It's day 3 and I feel terrible. Not due to the foods, I am dong great with that, I caught my son's summer cold and I just want to go to bed and stay there all day.
I am in work now and it is hard to even type, let alone keep my eyes open. I took some sudafed and some cough syrup that is sweetened with saccharine. But my throat hurts and it hurts to talk. This phone won't stop ringing and I am trying to be cheerful even though everyone is calling with stupic questions. they would know the answers if they would JUST READ THE LETTER!
I had my cheese and macadamia nuts and am drinking my 2nd quart of water. That cheese really felt good going down my throat but the nuts just hurt no matter how I tried to chew them. I think tonight I might mash them up into a peanut butter and mix it with the cream cheese. But I am not hungry now and I think it is due to the medicine and cough syrup.
I will let you all know how I am doing, so far not a pound lost. This is day 3, shouldn't I be seeing something? I am in deep ketosis, not the highest but the next color down, almost purple.
I want my bed and cuddly blanket. Peggie
 
Summer colds bite the big one! Sorry you are not feeling well!
Take it easy - maybe this will help you through the next day or so! (always looking for a silver lining here...)

Can you leave work early and go home and rest? My boss would kick us out the door before letting us risk making others sick - but I work in a large travel agency, so we usually have adequate phone coverage.

Wish I could go home. I am the only one here.
I am a nurse at a University Health Center and one nurse works every week during the summer. I do 2 weeks every month because I am full time. I couldn't get sick last week when I was off, I had to wait till this week.
It is 3 pm, so I get to go home at 4:30. right now I am enjoying my avacodo, mayo and chicken salad. YUMMMM. It is not bad but the cream cheese feels better on the throat.
Weighed myself today. I lost 2 lbs in the 3 days. I don't think that is very good, but I will wait until the end of the 4th day to make judgements then get the bloodwork the Dr ordered to check my thyroid.
Not doing as good as my son, or my friend Caroline, 10 lbs in one week, I am SOOOO jealous. Peggie
 
Day 4. I am having cravings for salt. I keep thinking of pretzels, chips, anything salty. the funny thing is I never ate any of that stuff before starting the diet. I think it might be because of the cold and the antihistamines I am taking. All the fluids I am drinking are running out my nose.
I am forcing myself to eat the cream cheese for bfst, I have no appetite at all. Even the drinking is hard because my throat is killing me.
I weighed myself today. Almost 8 LBS!!!!! I don't know weather I should call my Dr for the blood work now or if this means I am capable of losing weight. I was thinking it was thyroid or hormonal but I guess it's just my body saying "she's on another diet, time to go into shut down mode until she stops"
So, I go back to induction tomorrow. I will try to watch everything I eat, cut down on the cheese more, eat a salad each day, and MEAT. If I stall again I always know I can do another few days of the fat fast to kick myself into lose mode.
Now how do I go about getting a clippie. I am hoping that by tomorrow I can do the 10 lb clippie.
One big problem though, I don't see any change in my clothes. They fit me just the same as they did before, except the bras. I don't want to lose weight there! Peggie
