After hours of reading here and looking at flight, hotel etc. websites, I'm starting to put together a preliminary itinerary.

We will probably be arrriving around July 16 (anyone flown Spirit?) for approximately 10 days, not counting travel days. I'm trying to put together an itinerary to include some sights around Los Angeles, San Diego and of course Disneyland.

I'm also looking at the Queen Mary as a possiblity for 2 to 3 nights at the start of the trip in order to relax and do some touring around Los Angeles, before heading off to San Diego for a couple of days to visit a friend and see some sights and then finishing off with the remainder at DL, staying at the Hojo or Candy Cane Inn. Haven't ruled out a DL resort entirely, yet. I think I'll get a 3 day PH for myself, not sure about Dh yet as he wants to do some golfing but will probably spend at least one day with me at DL

Or...... I was also thinking of starting out touring the LA area/DL, going to San Diego for the couple of days, then finishing off with a couple of nights on the Queen Mary.

Opinions would be great! :)

Has anyone stayed on the Queen Mary and what did you think of it?

I think we are going to do mainly sight-seeing, some shopping areas, a few nice restaurants (including Blue Bayou and Goofy's while at DL), maybe take a Trolley Tour rather than go to another theme park etc. Also, is it feasible to drive along the coast and stop for a bit at the various beaches, maybe Santa Monica Pier, in a day?

TIA!

I can help *a little bit*. DH and I have stayed on the Queen Mary and I've toured it before. I really enjoyed staying there - we did it in combo with a trip to Disneyland and it was a great interruption in our trip. When you stay there, you get cheap tickets to do the ghost tour, which was really neat (although a little spooky if you're staying in the hotel). The restaurant there was really good. Make sure you get a room with a porthole, facing the water. Without a window it's quite dark, and seems smaller. Very romantic.
We also went to Santa Monica Pier one day, and really enjoyed it. You can probably do a beach or two as well. The Pier is lovely with an older park, but very fun. We saw someone catch a shark! DH likes to stop at Seal Beach whenever we're in the area - one of his old haunting grounds when he was a kid.
If you haven't been to catalina Island, you can catch a boat over from right by the Queen Mary. I enjoy that too, although it's somewhat touristy. As I remember we got a really great package deal that included the trip to catalina. They also have some carnival cruise ships docking out of the old spruce goose building right next to the Queen Mary.
If you've got a vehicle, that makes it easier of course. My DH grew up in the LA area, so I didn't have to worry about figuring out where we were going. The driving was somewhat stressful though.
I hope you have a wonderful time!

Thanks for your reply cuterlt and for all the very useful information! That really helps with my planning! :)
