Stars and Stripes Tickets

Looking for an answer to this question. We're planning on booking this week for free dining. As it looks it should post on Monday. Wondering if anyone knows if we purchase the magic your way ticket with park hopper for 3 days, if we could upgrade those at the parks for the 8 day Stars and Stripes military ticket. It would save us about $70 per ticket and include access to the water parks. I know its a specialized answer and appreciate anyone that could answer it.

The Stars & Stripes ticket is only sold at Shades of Green not at the Disney gate, so no you wouldn't be able to upgrade to the S&S ticket.

If you are military, you do NOT need to purchase tickets with your package. I am pretty sure, however, that you need to purchase a MYW package (with tickets) to be eligible for free dining. You cannot change your tickets that you bought with a package to a special discounted ticket.

I checked in to free dining last year and it was actually a better deal to use the military room discount and purchase salute tickets. The free dining requires a room at full price and at least a two day ticket at full price.

Since the S&S is only sold at Shades, I doubt it. I don't think they have any way to do an upgrade from an already purchased ticket. Your best bet would be to call Shades and see.

Since you want an 8-day ticket, have you looked at the pricing of the military room discount with the Salute 4-day tickets? You can use 2 Salute tickets back-to-back to make your 8 days. Please do the math to see if this might be better than free dining.

Thanks everyone for your responses. We are looking at every angle here. Our plan for four of us is once we use the tickets, upgrade to annual pass as this is a ten day trip and we have another 3 to 4 weeks planned in the next year. Family traveling with us would enjoy the water park and with that ticket, you get the water parks and more with the hopper. Again this is part of looking at all the options. The military tickets and room discount left us about $700 more for the trip than FD. We're staying at one of the values for the animated theming for the kids so the % off doesn't add up to that much.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the Stars and Stripes cannot be upgraded or added to and final sale from SOG. It should match your length of stay at either SOG or a Disney resort. Also, the military salute tickets cannot be upgraded or added to either, but you can use 2, back to back, getting you 8 days. Bad thing is, you MDE will only recognize one salute ticket at a time. So no early fast passes for the second salute ticket used.


If you want to upgrade to an AP, then check out ITT offices and SOG for regular tickets. If you buy from them, you do not pay sakes tax, so that is some savings. Also, check undercovertourist or other authorized ticket resellers. Be aware of tax and shipping fees. UT has it's tickets price inclusive of tax, and free domestic shipping. Disney will bridge your discount ticket, so when you upgrade in the park, you get the current ticket value of what your discounted ticket is. Be aware, and do the math when you upgrade, to be sure you are paying the right amount to upgrade to the AP you want.

I am all about saving. The other thing is, if you really want free dining, you can save the minimum of day ticket, by not using them, then ask for them to be given to you unused, and buy the ticket you want. That is what AP holders do, they save the required tickets to be at another time, sell them, or I think, some have used them when renewing their AP, to save some money, as they will get the current value of those tickets.
