Starring Rolls Cupcakes

I'm fairly certain that they are using vegetable shortening, not lard in the cupcakes. I'm a good old Southern gal who's grandmother and mother used to cook with lard. No way Disney would be using it in a cupcake. :scared1:

I think maybe people are either using the terms interchangeably or they are confused. I'm going to go see what I can dig up with a quick google search.

Lard turns rancid while veg shortening has a much longer shelf life. I ate a few bites of the cupcakes on our trip to check it out for you. I am soooo kind. :lmao:

I took the test to the next level, albeit unintentionally.

We went to Starring Rolls fairly early, probably around 10.30 am because I know how long those lines can get :scared1: We got a focaccia, chips, a juice and a .... mmmmmm Marble cupcake. I put it all into take away boxes and placed them in my backpack. Later, having forgotten about them in my park bag, we used our FPs on the Rock N Rollercoaster.

When we sat down to eat at lunch time, the marble cupcake was still intact - just a little 'smudgy' round the edges. Those trans fats clearly do what they are meant to do. ;)

Thanks for all your hard work...I didn't mean to put anybody out ;)

Glad to hear it's shortening...I'll have to sample one of each on my trip (of course for testing purposes :lmao:)

Since we were there at breakfast time we each had a cupcake, one was the Peanut Butter one cause you all suggested it and the Red Velvet because it looked so good and it was, it was our favorite!

BTW, if anyone wants the recipe for the white frosting I can dig it out for you but you might not want to know what is in it. I cringed when I first saw it too. It is a heart doctor's delight as it will pay for their school loans in short order!

I enjoyed a red velvet cupcake while watching Beauty and the Beast show.
Yup, I ate the whole thing! It was very good.

jakespop, DIS folks are know it alls or at least wanna know it alls.:goodvibes

Where is "Starring Rolls Cupcakes".

In Hollywood Studios, at the first big intersection, it's on the right hand corner in front of the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant. You go down a couple of steps...you'll see some outside tables. The shop itself is actually very small, but full of goodies.

Starring Rolls did not have White Chocolate Cupcakes available on my recent visit. They had been replaced by the Strawberry Cheesecake...or some such other. I was in such a state of disbelief and dismay that I did not think to ask if it was a permanent change.

Ooohhh, the humanity!

I find myself wondering why if they can make really good desserts at Starring Rolls, Writer's Stop as well as a few other places why they cannot serve them at some of the other places instead of those horrible prepackaged desserts? For the prices charged it should be possible.

I'm sure it's all cost/profit as well as convenience for food service places: it's definitely because of the storage/freshness issues the fancy desserts would have at the other counter service places. The prepackaged desserts are in sealed containers, keep for days & can be stacked, boxed in crates for storage, etc. They are also quite a bit smaller than the usual fresh pastry or cake at bakeries like Starring Rolls. So I would guess the prepackaged variety is both much more convenient and far, far cheaper than the bakery goodies. The other counter service places serve a huge volume of customers every day. Starring Rolls and WRiter's Stop do not.

I agree it'd be great fun to have those kind of dessert choices everywhere, but I think you'd see the prices for meals really skyrocket if they did that!

catne, all you say is so true but I wonder how many folks pay OP for those prepackaged desserts? I am thinking they are foist upon those of us who either buy or get the 'free' dining plans as no one else would stand still for such.

Hollywood and Vine used to sever Starring Rolls desserts at their buffet. Not so sure they do now as we seldom eat at a TS place anymore.

If they want to serve convenience items they ought to charge convenience prices IMO.

I think Disney could do better, they used to do better.

I actually saw someone with a picnic lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at one point and felt envious. :confused3

My DH ordered one when we were there in November. Even I looked at him like he was crazy, and I reminded him what the QS desserts were like, but he still wanted it. I guess he really does love some cheesecake, even if it's only "cheesecake." :rotfl:

paxsarah, it is a shame that I , or one of the many other folks on Free Dining, were not there because he could have had mine and possibly dozens of others for the asking.

I am doing a low carb diet and even I, after about three days, do not find those chocolate or carrot cakes at all appealing. :goodvibes
