Starring Rolls Cupcakes are fabulous and I know they count as a snack credit.

Can the count as a DDP dessert to go with the sandwich and beverage?

Yes they can......beware they are super addicting!!:thumbsup2

Just read on Disney Food Blog that there's lard in the frosting...please tell me this was just a way of saying how fattening they are :confused3

Can anyone confirm??

Lard is probably the ingredient. Sorry.

I am planning a lunch here just for the cupcakes. I don't want the sandwich, just the dessert! Maybe I'll split it with hubby. That way, he gets the non sugary part, I get the good part! :thumbsup2

I cannot confirm, but I have a very good friend who runs a confectionary. She told me that lard is still very common in cake and cupcake decorating. The good news is, it's not in large quantities. It causes the frosting to hold its shape better than oil. ;)

Oh this is very very good to know! lol I have my eye on that Butterfinger cupcake

I will be eating a Starring Rolls White Chocolate cupcake one month from today! :thumbsup2

*salivating*

:santa::santa::santa:

Arenita, I will be eating one of those cupcakes TOMORROW! :thumbsup2

I hate to tell you all but I bake a lot and I make the frosting you are talking about and it is almost all composed of white shortening and confectioner's sugar. Sounds disgusting but it taste good and yes, it holds up well. Might could caulk a house with it even.:rotfl2:

Slightly Goofy

Tomorrow? Ooohhh...have fun! I had the chocolate peanut butter cupcake and could only eat one bite before feeling as if I would become sick if I kept eating. Hopefully, you won't have my reaction. I am hoping to find a cupcake somewhere that is not sickeningly sweet. Let me know if you find one.

Belle, never fear I have a secret weapon. I get the snack of my dreams, take one lovely bite and then give the rest to my junkyard dog, aka, dh.:rotfl2:

Having done this for many decades now I have discovered that ALL of the calories must be in the first bite though.:confused3

I am in hog heaven since we are already in Florida it will only be an hour and a half commute to DW tomorrow. When we get moved down here I foresee many, many shorter trips throughout the year. :thumbsup2

Shortening isn't the same as lard though...they may look similar, but definitely are different. I'm really interested to know what's in the frosting...lard just makes them sounds so  to me!

I know my lard cause I grew up on a farm and lard is the rendering from the animal fat and would have to be refrigerated or it would go rancid. I am positive that it is vegetable shortening that they use. Would not be kosher to do otherwise, literally.

On our last trip at the end of October, we had CS credits to use up on our last day so went to SR to have breakfast. They only let us get one pastry and 2 drinks for each credit, which isn't great compared to the one sandwich, one pastry and one drink for lunch. They were kind of snippy about it when I asked, so I wonder if they get a lot of flack about it. I was a little floored with the attitude of the CMs there since it was the only non-magical service I had the whole trip. Besides the one who snapped at me about what I got for a CS breakfast, I also got chastised at checkout because I had gotten 3 cupcakes and 2 drinks and wanted to use 1 CS and 2 snack credits. She had heard the CM tell me what I could get and must have counted my items incorrectly because she snapped at me, "NO, we TOLD you what you could get and this is TOO much for 1 CS and 2 snacks." I moved the items around to show her that it was indeed the right amount of food and she said, "Oh, ok." She was very rude and it kind of ruined my tasty breakfast.

I'm sure one of you knows the answer to this--can you get to the Starring Roles Cafe before rope drop?

And if not, what would be a good quick service place in DHS to get breakfast or snacks before rope drop??

Thanks!

Sorry, there is no place to get quick service breakfast or snacks in DHS before rope drop. All of the restaurants are on the far side of the rope. I suppose there may be packaged candy or snack cookies in one of the stores there at the front of the park, but no actual counter service restaurants are open before rope drop

Your best bet would be to eat quick service at your resort before arriving at DHS. If you're going to be at rope drop at DHS, I assume it's because you want to get to TSM or RnR...in which case, you're sure don't want to stop for quick service breakfast once they do drop that rope:scared1:

Thanks Catne...that is what I was afraid of. We don't usually do rope drop at DHS (our kids are young and don't ride many of the rides there), so I wasn't sure where they placed the ropes.

You are right...we want to hit TSM right away and will not waste anytime once the rope drops to stop to eat!

I really appreciate the reply!

As a baker, yup, you just can't make an amazing frosting without trans fat. Trans means there is a hydrogen on either side of the molecule whick gives it balancen and makes it possible to whip it & twist those molecules into a fluffy, light product. Try and use a new trans-fat free shortening and your frosting simply will not hold it's shape, forget about frosting roses and the lovely star tip lines in those cupcakes. Plus an all butter frosting, though yummy, melts instantly in the Florida sun.

I'm a Weight Watchers leader & try to make everything as healthy as possible but have finally given up on this one. Cupcakes/cakes are a treat to be eaten rarely, not daily. And the frosting recipe should be left alone, trans fats and all.

I posted this question to special diets, but didn't receive a specific response...it was more along the lines of speak to the chef.

Shortening is one thing, which although contains trans fat, it is vegetable based; lard is animal based. I hope I can find an answer before my trip!
