Star Wars TFA release dates (3D update)

Im stoked for the release...

But I never expected any additional footage without hoopla and a price tag.

Would like to get a 3D copy...but I'm not playing this "later" game with Disney...not doing the repeated purchase Schtick like Lucas pulled. That ended with the "special editions" and the prequels. Nope. One and done

Really don't like that there's retailer exclusives. It's as bad as video games.

I'll probably just get the "standard" on Amazon.

To that end...target had been Preselling it for about 6 weeks with "20 minutes of exclusive content"...likely bonus featurettes.

They won't be the only one with gimmick hooks

I've cancelled my Best Buy preorder. I will begrudgingly wait on the 3D release. I hate double dips, even if they are announced in advance.

Virtually every retailer has some sort exclusive. Content exclusives drive me up a wall. Release one end-all-be-all edition. If you want to do a new SE every 10 years on anniversaries or a boxed set when trilogies are complete, I'm all good.

I think I've had this conversation on here before. I don't do 3D movies at home at all. Too much hassle, minimal upside. And in the case of TFA I didn't think 3D added anything substantive to the experience in the theaters.

I don't care about the extras, directors commentaries or assorted nonsense. Even deleted scenes usually just leave me going "yup, I see why they deleted that". Just give me the movie.

Since I do have a 3D TV I will probably wait for the 3D release.

I think the in-hope 3D experience is dependent upon your setup. I have a 3D player and a 4K Samsung 3DTV with active shutter glasses. The experience is second to none. As good or better than the IMAX quality of 3D.

...and I'm a completist, both with regards to features and content. I'll flip to buying 4K BD soon in preparation for having a player, but only if it includes all of the existing blu-ray features (including 3D), otherwise I'll buy the blu-ray instead.

That doesn't eliminate the hassle. Glasses that give me a headache after an hour, never enough pairs for everyone who wants to watch, can't find the bloody things when I need them... Basically if it's more complicated than turn on the tv it's harder than I'm interested in. I actually ripped all my DVDs and loaded them on a harddrive so I don't have to bother with them any more.

Now I almost never buy DVDs or blu-rays. I'll make an exception for Star Wars but I'm about 99% streaming at this point. Convenience trumps fidelity in my house.

If doing the 3D thing gives you a headache, that's about where you need to stop. Could be your equipment, could be your eyes, but it's never going to be worth it.

Streaming is nice, but I love media and streaming will never compare to a disc pushing data through HDMI.

100% with you on 3D. I built an in house theater, 120 inch screen with 3D projector and active shutter glasses. 7.1 surround with the front speakers behind the screen. When Disney stopped releasing 3D versions, I got them from overseas markets; even had to get one from Russia (Frozen?). Can also do surround video projection (not 3D) with four projectors onto four 120 inch screens through my computer. Have a 3D video camera with 5.1 surround recording that I used on trips to WDW. No lack of content that way!

The 3D restrictions stateside are obnoxious, especially since the discs are authored. I picked up Frozen from Zavvi (sad I didn't buy 2 or more) then forgot to do the same for Big Hero 6 & Maleficent before they sold out.

I don't have a 3D camera, but tried to 4K the Osborne Lights with my iPhone 6s+. Completely didn't realize I had to turn 4K on, so ended up with 1080P. Boo.

Have had a 4k television in the living room for about 6 months and to be honest, have only watched it half a dozen times. I don't watch a lot of TV; wife always watches in the family room.

Interesting. We have all 1080p TVs just haven't made the jump to 4K because we haven't needed to really. Maybe when the older 63" in the basement doesn't work anymore my dad will move up to 4K.

If. Big IF. You watch the majority of your movies in 3D on a home set you'll find non 3D to be flat. I compare it to when shows were in SD and you had a Bluray. Same comparison.

No, the movies aren't gimmicky (the stick is going to hit me) but they have a realism depth that can't be beat.

Working on a projector since I lost my theater room when we moved back to STL, but the upstairs TV is 3D. I went passive since with 2 kids getting active is a pain. We have about 10 pairs of glasses so it works well. Besides I can always not recycle the pair from the theater and have more. :D

I'm sure I'll buy in April and again when 3D comes. Won't be able to wait...

Woah...major geeker convie going here...when did I get to the Star Trek convention?

You chaps have apparently way more time and money to spend on watching tv than I do...
