I've never been on the Star Wars ride and was wondering if anyone can tell me what it's like. DBF and I are not into roller coasters and big drops (although we can still handle Indy and POTC). A coworker of mine told me that you are actually stationary the whole time. I tried to youtube it and I can't seem to figure out if it is an actual ride or not. It looked like there was a crazy drop at the beginning of the ride. Do you think we would be able to manage this ride?

Its a simulator so you are stationary, your seat moves with a screen in front of you, there are simulated drops, but its not that bad of a ride, I think you guys would be fine

The ride itself doesn't move like a coaster, so you are technically "stationary", but it is like a flight simulator in that the vehicle rocks violently back and forth and up and down in sync with the images on the scree in front. Let's just say I have ridden every ride at DL and had no problems with any of them except the Maliboomer and Star Tours. Both me and my sister left feeling very sick and vowed never again, and we are not wimps!

Do I think you should do it? Absolutley. It is not a violent ride. Indy is much worse.

It is a motion simulator ride. It throws you about and pushes you back in your seat. The technology is not great as it has not been updated since 86. Despite this, I say ride it. It is a lot of fun.

The drops are not bad. Pirates is worse. It just feels like you are leaning forward.

Here is a hint... for a more intense experience sit closer to the back. The back row preferably.

To me it seems less jerky than Indy.....and pretty entertaining. Good luck deciding and have a great trip....

Well, you are not on a track, if that is what you mean. Star Tours is made up of these 'Pods' (I'm sure there is a more technical name) that hold 50 people or so ( could be more I never really counted). The ride is actually a combination of a film that shows the vehicle traveling through space and hydraulics that raise and lower the pod to give the feeling like you are traveling through space. It is actually quite realistic, IMO. In fact for me, after just a few seconds my brain is already believing we are space bound.

You are strapped in with a seatbelt and do get the feel of dropping, turning, going into hyperspace, etc., but the scenery is all set in space so it give me a very different feeling than a roller coaster.

I will also tell you that my son, who hates even the kids roller coaster, loves Star Tours so much he would go on 10 times in a row if we let him.

I concur here. It is a lot of fun, but it just doesn't hold up as well as a real roller coaster like the Matterhorn. As long as you let yourself get lost in the illusion and not worry about how cheesy some of the effects are, it is a fantastic experience.

That's how I was when I was about his age. I loved Star Tours. I still do, but I am very glad they are updating it soon. It is as old as me. Time for something new.

As soon as I wrote that, I had this horrible vision of me in a scene from Logan's run... (you know what scene)

I completely agree with everything you just said. Well put.

Ahh! That explains it, we were in the very back corner.

Thank you so much for all the quick responses! It sounds like a lot of fun! I will definitely try to convince DBF to ride it during our next trip (probably in Dec). Maybe I'll ease him into it and sit closer toward the front/in the middle :rotfl:

Well, my 5yo DD loved it and she didnt like any of the Mountain rides. I think its pretty tame! Its one of my FAVS! :3dglasses

Your seat just jostles around a bit...it doesnt actually go anywhere though. :thumbsup2

If you are a fan of Star Wars, you should really enjoy this ride, no matter how rough the ride is. Riding it for the first time is the best because you have no idea what's coming up. After that there's no surprises. Best hint for you, if you feel sick, either look at the floor or close your eyes.

Ugh! I have ridden some of the biggest roller coasters in the world, but Star Tours makes me want to hurl every single time. It's ridiculous because it really is NOT a bad right, but it gets to me for some reason. I think it's not so much the ride, but a previous bad experience. I went to DL with an ex once, and she made me ride that thing about ten times in a row. She loved it! I was fine the first five or six times, but I was absolutely green by the tenth time. Now I can't ride it without getting that same sick feeling. :sad2:

There are very few rides at DLR that I will not go on. Star Tours is one of them. It's constant shaking. Shake shake shake shake shake Ugh. I just couldn't deal with all the shaking. It was not fun for me at all.

No drops, twists, or turns, just shaking. Lots of shaking. If you're okay with shaking, enjoy.

P.S. For the curious, the other is I won't ride is Tower of Terror. Random drops are right in there with constant shaking. Anything else is fun, fun, fun!

I'll ride anything so you don't want my response... My wife will not do Star Tours. She thinks if they pumped more air in she'd be fine but she feels nausious afterwards. She loved Indy and will do Tower of Terror; just Star Tours she skips.

When it was new, I felt like we were really in space. But now I've seen it so many times and the film looks worn so I can't convince myself we are really there. Now I feel like I'm watching a movie. We might go on it once in a trip- maybe.

Mice Age is reporting that they will have Star Tours 2.0 by 2011 and that they will announce it at the D23 expo. I certainly hope so. I've been wishing they would put in a new movie. :thumbsup2

I think I will be able to handle the shaking but I'm a little worried about DBF getting sick

Well, maybe he could close his eyes if he started to feel funny. That would take away the feeling that you were really going anywhere.
