My son wants a Star Wars themed party for his 11th birthday. He is still young enough to really enjoy games at his parties, and since this may be the last year before he's too "cool" for that, I want to go all out.

I'm trying to make all the games either some kind of Jedi Training, or a "Defeat the Dark Side" kind of thing. More like quests than mere activities. Some things are easy, like a Dark Star pinata for them to destroy, and Jedi training with inflatable light sabers. I'm going to blindfold them and suspend ping-pong balls for them to try to hit using only their Jedi senses, stuff like that.

I'm also renting an inflatable obstacle course that has two paths so two party guests can race each other through. Any Star Wars ideas for what to call this? I thought of calling it some kind of flight training, because it sort of reminds me of the Star Wars ride at HS, where you fly through wormholes and maneuver through tight areas, etc. But they're not "flying" on anything. Last year's party was Harry Potter themed and I rented a giant inflatable slide and made "broomsticks" out of pool noodles for them to "fly" down the slide on. But I can't think of any sort of way to make the obstacle course Star Wars themed.

Also, my son wants to make slime. How do I associate slime with Star Wars? I thought about making it glow in the dark and adding glitter or even tiny stars I can order from Amazon, and calling it Galactic Slime or Planetary Ooze or something like that, but that seems kind of lame. I really wanted all the games to be related to Jedi training or battle against the Dark Side. How can making slime train a Jedi or help defeat the Dark Side?

Any ideas? Ideas other than what I've mentioned would be appreciated too! Thanks!

Love your ideas! As for slime, you could make galaxy butter slime. Don't know how you would defeat the dark side with it, but it's easy enough to make butter slime in shades of purple, blue, and black and then they can mix them together and add glitter.

I planned a star wars party once, the birthday boy was younger than your son, but I'll tell you some of the games we played. We played a Jedi vs sith game with pool noodles and red and blue balloons, they had to corral all their team's balloons into a taped square on the floor using only their lightsabers, team with the most balloons in the square at the end won. After the first round we changed the rules so they could steal and break the other team's balloons. It dissolved into chaos but it was fun. We also did a hunt for moon rocks where I wrapped candies and little toys in foil. We also played "pass the thermal detonator" I decorated a tall cookie tin And we played like hot potato. Whoever had it when the music stopped had to reach in and pull out a moonrock, which were filled with assorted prizes, some bad and some good. I remember the bad prizes were stinky scratch and sniff stickers and plain rubber bands and glitter bombs. I had actually just planned that game as an extra filler in case we needed to kill some time but the kids ended up loving it!

Those games sound great, thanks! Between the neighborhood kids and the swim team we have a wide range of ages coming so it's nice to have games that appeal to everyone. And I've found that games that I've worried would be "too young" often end up being the most popular!

For the obstacle course race, my first thoughts were either a "Trench Run" theme, or maybe "Pod Racing"? I think just some appropriate background soundtrack music would be all you need to set the tone for either of those! Similarly, Musical Chairs would work with the soundtrack, we used to use the Throne Room track.

I did something similar with hot potato, except I took a large styrofoam ball, wrapped it in foil and made it "pass the Death Star" ::yes:: We still have that Death Star 10 years later lol.

Get a pair of swim goggles, call them "flight goggles". you could even mess with them a little and spread them with a layer of mod podge or something that will blur their vision a little. Then call the obstacle course "Pod racing" or "Kessel Run" and have them race each other in twos. if you do Kessel run, you could add an element that makes it like a smuggle run (make them hold a balloon and complete the course without popping it or something like that)
