I know a previous poster asked about a strategy for August but what about a strategy for the opening day? Can you camp out the night before? Will they actually have an opening date or will they just open it one day in June without advertising? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Oh and sorry in advance for the all caps title...... whoops
You can change the title of the post. On the upper right, there is a drop down menu ("Thread Tools"). Click on that and then click on "Edit Title".

I cannot imagine that they would not have a major announcement with the official opening day. I'm sure that whether or not they allow it, there will be guests camping out from the night before (or maybe even before that). At this point, without knowing anything more about what they have planned, I would say the only strategy is to have a lot of patience if you try to go on opening day. I'm guessing the crowds will be huge!

joining in, my first park day is June 30. As we still dont have an official date, Im expecting opening day to be ANY day in June.

Well, depends what you mean by opening day. First, there will probably be closed previews for media and/or VIP invitees. Then, there will probably be paid previews open to the public, basically special days/nights/times when you can buy a ticket (Pixar Pier preview was $200+) and visit. This could be as early as May, and people are speculating Memorial Day weekend.

Once all that's done and the land officially opens... you might have some options other than rushing to get in line. There might be some paid options, like a tour that includes one or both of the attractions, or a dining package that allows early access to the attractions (like the WDW Toy Story & Fantasyland breakfasts) or comes with a FP to one or both of the attractions.

If you're not looking to do any of those things, then whatever day it opens to the public conventional wisdom would be to get there as early as possible, get a FP for one of the attractions and jump in the standby line of the other attraction (assuming it's not longer than your FP return time for the other one!). MaxPass should be your friend here. Of course, this is what EVERYONE is going to try to do, so whether it will work remains to be seen.

There are other things to consider, like... how will DL rope off the lines and control access to GE? It seems likely that huge lines will immediately form just to grab FPs for each attraction. It might be physically difficult to grab a FP for one and then just "get in line" for the other one in a convenient way that avoids an hours long line. Again, MaxPass might help here. But we don't know how MaxPass will work either. Will you be able to get FPs for both? Or will it be limited to only one of the attractions per day (kind of like Pandora at WDW)? Will you need a FP for an attraction just to get into the land? Will there be single rider lines? Will the attractions break down since they're brand new and still have some bugs to work out? Will the blue milk be any good? All questions that are yet to be answered.

About the line...here's my experience with the last 24 hour party, which probably had similar crowd levels to what they're expecting...All the info said you can start lining up at X:XX (I can't remember the actual time). I arrived about 2-3 hours before that time to a line that wrapped all the way through the bus loading/unloading area and the drop off area. I'd guess there were maybe 5-10,000 people there well before opening time camping out. If they're offering free merchandise to the first so many customers, expect people to line up even earlier. It took about 2 hours to get through that line once they opened the turnstiles to enter the park and another hour or so of being crammed into the sardine can that was Main Street. Once everything opened up, it wasn't horrible, but it was pretty nuts all day. Waits for food, especially specialty foods, were longer than many attraction lines.

So...yes, get there early. Even if it isn't sanctioned, other people will be there. Know that anything you "camp" with will need to be put away in a vehicle before gates open or left behind. If you need a chair or something, consider one of those inflatable things that looks like a banana since it'll collapse small enough to fit in your backpack. And bring entertainment. Your phone and any electronics will go dead early. Old fashioned card games are good, or a book...assuming you have enough lighting for that.

Good luck and enjoy. I'm still trying to decide what to do. If I go opening day, I'd be flying solo and I just don't know if I'm cut out for that type of wait by myself anymore, though it was fun the one time I did it. I'm still hoping the preview parties will be at a price point I'm comfortable with and that by some miracle I can actually get a ticket. That's a much easier way to do these things.

In addition to what beachdreamr1229 said (which was all very good!) keep in mind that Star Wars fandom has a reputation for insane line waits. Last Star Wars Celebration, line ups for staying overnight were supposed to start no earlier than 7 PM. Someone had been in "line' for two days. While I hope DLR is better at clearing anyone who tries that than Orlando's convention center was, yeah be prepared for a LOT of people to just circumvent whatever line control Disney comes up with. *cry*

Best strategy: construct a small burrow on Tom Sawyer Island by visiting DL every day and slowly tunneling deeper into the caves. If you start now, you should have a nice hovel dug out and stocked with provisions by the time SWGE is set to open and can emerge on opening day far ahead of those who had to wait outside of the park.
