If anyone can help with some budget ideas on a Star Wars costume for a 7 year old girl, I would greatly appreciate it. I've found some going for around $40 online, but I honestly don't want to spend that kind of money if it's something she might only wear one day. We're going to SWW this weekend, so if I order something, I probably should have done it ... yesterday.

This area is just not my form, I've never even seen the movies. So of course, I get a daughter who wants to dress up when we go to SWW.

Any ideas?

Princess Leia is super easy and I sewed it very quickly.

I'm sure you could do it without sewing. She is just dressed in all white with a fancy belt. Use a white shirt, and get some white fabric to make a skirt. Measure it so it fits around her waist. Sew or glue it together (there is some iron on glue stuff you can get at Joann's) so you have a tube. Hem the bottom and fold the top over an inch and 1/2 or so. Feed a piece of one inch elastic through this (attach one end to a safety pin and it will be easy.) Pull it tightly so it fits her waist. Secure the elastic by sewing or just pin the two ends together.

Scope out Goodwill for a fancy belt.

Hope that makes sense.. PM me if you need more help.

I agree Princess Leia would be easy to create even without sewing. I wouldn't bother to buy a costume. I know from experience that if the costumes hot or not easy to wear that it will be taken off and your effort and money are wasted, lol.

Google princess Leia and you will get ideas. The hair is the most important...think two pigtails rolled in a bun on each side of her head. You can find hair extensions at the dollar store if her hair isn't long enough. I would check your closets first then goodwill for white flowing clothes. I would keep it simple maybe white tshirt and shorts a cape or something that drapes over that with a belt. And a really cool weapon!

Hmm. I think I'd do Endor Leia. See if you can find some cammo material or, even better, a cheap cammo rain poncho. Get light blue pants (skinny jeans or skinny cropped pants). If she had boots last winter that still fit, use those, if not, see what you can find at the thrifts or by asking around to other moms. Get a black scarf or wide piece of fabric to wrap around her waist for a belt or go to the dollar store and see if you can find a black utility style belt that will fit her.

If all you can find is cammo material, cut it out in a huge circle with a hole for her head. If you can find a cheap cammo rain poncho, put her in the outfit, tie the black belt over her poncho and cut it so she can walk and you can see a little of the pants.

Pin her hair up so that it's tight against her head and has braids. If her hair is long enough, braid a leather shoe string through the braid.

Voila! Endor Leia.

Here's some images of Endor Leia.

ETA: Just happened to think. She could also just be a padawan. Put her in some earthy toned pants with dark shoes or boots, put an earthy toned or white poets blouse or a tunic over it and belt it in with a wide belt or a dark piece of fabric. Get a cheapo piece of fake hair and braid it with a shoe string and put some beads at the bottom of the braid. Give her a light saber. She's a padawan.

Thank you ladies!

I went ahead and bought her http://www.costumeexpress.com/Star-Wars-Padme-Amidala-Deluxe-Child-Costume/10607/ProductDetail.aspx ...

Amidala is apparently her favorite, but my future mil had a say, and gave me more than half for the costume .. lol. Which worked for me ... I don't understand, but I'm not complaining. I also am part of shoprunner, thanks to a deal last year to join for free, so it'll be here in time.

I'm kinda hoping that it's like a princess dress and she'll want to wear it all the time. If not, I only put $10 into it ... soooo.

However, I am keeping these ideas for dress up ideas over the summer. You guys are really creative!

That is really, really cute.

Also, if you got some light gray boots and a cream colored puffy vest and lost the belt, she could be Hoth Leia too so that costume can play double duty.
