The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

This looks like a very interesting line up. I'm not going to speculate on roles because we don't have any details. Plus, since the EU got nuked there's no point in trying to match actors to characters. I don't see too many youngsters except Daisy Ridley and Domhnall Gleeson. I think me may be coming. There was also a very striking omission in the returning cast. No Billy Dee Williams.

I wish there were more women in the main cast. Out of 13 cast members announced only TWO are women. :confused3 Bummer! :(

So they have Bill Weasley from Harry potter, the boyfriend from Girls (though he could play a good villain) and Gollum from lord of the rings! That's all I'm going to think of when I see it! But I'm still excited! I love Star Wars!

I agree that this is very disappointing. I'd have liked another young female major character in some capacity. It's new material. It's not like they were locked into the Fellowship of the Ring or the Hobbit, where they'd have had to rewrite the story to include more women.

It's like they (very incorrectly) still assume that the main audience for this is young men. :-P

I haven't seen any of those three, so I'm good there. Looks like a good cast.

There is a rumor that there is still one female role that still needs to be cast. As with all rumors take that with a grain of salt.

I have to admit...i got a tingle when i saw the black and white picture they released yesterday with ford looking all calm...and fisher looks semi dryed out.

and of course R2 in the crate.

But its all about the story...not really the actors.

They had ewan magreggor, portman, samuel L, and liam neeson...all great actors...read absolute GARBAGE...and they came off like clowns.

if the script is good...doesn't matter who they film. assuming they film people and not computer garbage.

There were casting calls for two new female leads and so far we only have one. That rumor also said negotiations were ongoing with another actress.

Have you seen Hayden Christensen in anything lately?

Having a solid story and script are very important but having a cardboard cutout for one of your main leads only makes a bad situation worse.

Notice I left him out?

He's so bad...he's practically voldermort in Hollywood.

I only picked the GOOD actors

But that also proves my point. Go back and watch the scenes without the cardboard cutout and a lot of them hold up even with the weak script.

I guess we'll have to disagree on this one...

those scenes hardly hold up at all...any of them. I think i can count the good scenes/sequences in those three movies on one hand...

its the wretched script, the ridiculous cgi, and the terrible choppy cutscenes/editing...but its also that the actors morphed into the awesome terribleness that they hatched with those poorly executed movies...

roadkill on the lucas road to bucks.

(i know...here comes the "i thought they were pretty good!" counter to my statements...
i respect your opinons...one and all...i just cant support the thought process or conclusion on this one)

Do you think the inclusion of Andy Serkis means this could be a CGI heavy film?
