We enjoyed the movie very much. I think, ulimately, because it was going back to the beginning and refreshing the whole story, with just enough references to the original to make you feel at home.

I loved it and just rented it from Netflix to watch again. I did go see it at the movies.

Why?

The cast of characters were enjoyable to watch particularily since they are younger. I think they did a great job.

I believe the preferred term for Star Trek fanatic is "Trekker"...they frown upon "trekkie". But I LOVED the movie. everything about it was awesome! Chris Pine was fantastic but Zachary Quinto stole the show with one arch of an eyebrow. I thought the whole cast was amazing. Karl Urban's "Bones" was hilarious!

I thought it was a VERY risky move because Star Trek fans are really die hard fans and don't like ANYONE messing with their show. The bottom line though is, it's a FANTASTIC movie that was done so well that I don't think I've read a single bad review on it yet (at least not on message boards). The entire cast was phenomenal and while I buy few DVDs anymore, this one will be under our tree (along with Transformers 2)

The young Spock is played by Zachary Quinto who is a main character on Heroes.

Just because you asked about him specifically, Chris Pine did an outstanding job in role of James T. Kirk. He had big shoes to fill and pulled it off without a hitch.

Let's not take it as the gospel, but I found this and thought it rather interesting and humorous.

Some Star Trek enthusiasts prefer the term "Trekkie", while some others self-identify as "Trekker". Self-identification as a "Trekkie" became even less popular after a famous national television parody in 1986 (see In Popular Culture below); several self-described "Trekkers" were quoted as saying they "had a life" (contrasting themselves from "Trekkies").

In the 1991 TV show Star Trek: 25th Anniversary Special, Leonard Nimoy attempted to settle the issue by stating that the term 'Trekker' is the correct one.

In the documentary Trekkies, Kate Mulgrew stated that Trekkers are the ones "walking with us" while the Trekkies are the ones content to simply sit and watch Star Trek.

The issue is also shown in the film Trekkies 2, in which a Star Trek fan recounts a supposed incident during a Star Trek convention where Gene Roddenberry used the term "trekkies" to describe fans of the show, only to be corrected by a fan that stood up and yelled "Trekkers!" Gene Roddenberry allegedly responded with "No, it's 'Trekkies.' I should know — I invented the thing." Roddenberry has also allegedly used the term "Trekker" in interviews and personal appearances, arguably proving that he did in actual fact not consider either term to be the correct one. Generally, fans of film and television franchises make up their own nicknames, as with the "Browncoats" who are fans of the Firefly television series.

Not only was it Wiki, it came with the caveat that it wasn't verified (you know how they add that caption to something that's not verified). It was humorous though.

I'm not sure what you're asking. From everything I've ever seen the newest film is titled Star Trek (2009), and not officially XI, but I very well could be wrong.

Well, I'm not a Star Trek expert by any stretch, but I've certainly enjoyed most of the television series and movies. I thought this movie was great! It was a hoot to get an idea of what the characters were like in their youth and it gave you a great backstory. And the guys were cute!!

i'm not really a star trek fan, but i've watched all of the original series, TNG, and all of the movies with DH. we just watched the 2009 star trek film sunday night, and i have to say, i really enjoyed it. i didn't think i would like it at all, but it was really good.

hehe...Also, when young Spock sits in the chair of the spacecraft and it turns on it's own, and he says "Fascinating."

Also loved Chekov trying to get the ships computer to understand him saying "Wictor wictor", and him running through the ship yelling "I can do this I can do this!!" on his way to save Kirk from falling.
