Posted this on the WDW Resort board but that board's so busy it almost fell off the page straightaway & no responses yet.

My Dreams Unlimited itinerary shows a Star Trek weekend 11-13 June. What does this mean? Will we be queuing up for rides behind Klingons or what? Do these conventions/events add to the fun or are they an inconvenience?

Thanks for any info

EDITED - Sorry, wouldn't let me cancel post - it's a Star WARS weekend. Response on other Board - apparently light-sabres to be found mainly at MGM around Stars ride. Ocky 1.30am - going to bed NOW

I haven't actually been to one of these (though I'm sure one of these days I will be forced to as my DH is a massive Star Wars fan) but you are right it is only at MGM, I think it may be slightly more busy than usual and there is stuff going on like character autograph signing, appearances from Anthony Daniels (C3PO), the odd lightsabre duel and a few quizzes at various points. From what I've read I don't think it would detract from your enjoyment though (and would be heaven for a Star Wars fan!) I think it is only on at the weekend though so you could easily avoid it by not going on Sat/Sun. If you check out Deb Wills' site http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/mgm/m_starwars.htm there are some good details there.

I was there for a StarWars weekend a couple of years ago.

The park is a little busier, most of it is centred in the area around the ride, but I really didn't think it was too bad!

It's lots of small stuff mainly - they have the autograph signings, a little stage is set up for the light-sabre fights, a little parade of the actors...that sort of stuff. Plus they have the face characters of the characters in the movie (umm, if you know what I mean - not the real chew-bacca or Luke, but look-a-likes) all hanging around for autographs and pics, etc. Oh - and it was quite cool being there at park opening - they had a few of the guards (you know, the guys in the white plastic suits and masks) 'patrolling' on top of the entrance roof of the gates as you went thru the turnstiles...with laser rifles and all!

It's a bit of fun, and you can get as much or as little of it as you like - depending on how much of a fan you are :)

We were at MGM during one of the Star Wars weekends last May. The area around the Star Wars ride is awash with characters and gets absolutely mobbed. We really enjoyed the special Star Wars themed WWTBAM-PI!

Disney have loads of these unofficial themed weekends.

Gay Days at the start of June, various Christian festivals and so on. Disney don't officially endorse most of them (esp Gay Days) but at the end of the day it's all money in their pocket isn't it?
