Star Tours Vs. The Little Mermaid

And see, this post makes me smile. :goodvibes

Everything is highly subjective and everyone is entitled to his or her own opinions.

Star Tours is based on a franchise loved the world over. Star Wars is a classic series with iconic characters. At some point most people have picked up a stick and pretended it was a lightsaber, or tried to use the force. Ariel can't match that. As for being immersed in the character's world, it looks, to me at least, that Star Tours does it better.

+1.

IMO, LM is not in the same league as ST, but the two are not comparable. You need rides like LM for the young ones and hardcore LM fans. And it is a cute ride. I'll stick to ST, myself.

I know Right... The beginning of the attraction was good... The whole going under the water thing with the bubbles... then looking up and seeing Ariel and Flounder... Cool...

But that's where the technology ended... After that it was classic dark ride but with an update... It lacked razzle dazzle and pop!

Love it but was really left wanting more!

:confused3

My thoughts exactly. For the most part, it looks like the same technology used on PPF--and I am a big PPF fan---but I was expecting something much more.

When I saw the previews on the local news, I was thinking, "Well, that looks a little weak" and was hoping for more when I actually rode the ride, but nothing more really came. I remember thinking that the Ariel in the later part of the ride, with I think just her head and tail moving a little bit, had a hair-style that reminded me of photos of Elsa Lanchester in "Bride of Frankenstein." I know they were looking for her hair floating in the water, but it did not work, IMO. The best I can say is that it is very colorful and some fans of the film will enjoy it, but since I have been there and done that, i would not wait longer than 30 minutes for it.

Pardon me but what exactly is PPF? :lmao:

And yeah, I thought the same thing about her honestly. I know we're supposed to believe she's under water, but...ehh. It doesn't work that great.

Peter Pan's Flight

As far as to what rides would I wait more than 30 minutes for, I waited 45 for Toy Story Mania and 50 minutes for Soarin'. Those were the longest waits that I had last week. When I saw the 50 minutes for Soarin', I did not think that it would really take that long but it did. To our group, it seemed as though the use of Fast Pass was different than at WDW. At WDW those who are in the standby line are seated a little more frequently. At DLR, everyone who had a FP was seated, then just 10 or so from the standby line were included. I know that I could have gotten a FP so it was my own fault that the wait took so long, but I didn't and learned from it.

So based on your multiple rides, you'd say the ride is best for families with young children?

How do you think it would stack up with two teenagers? :rotfl:

Best for families with young children, definitely but that doesn't mean you should not go because you think it's for little kids. It's fun as I think most attractions are at Disney. Now, some teens may go on it because LM was their favorite movie when they were young. My brother is a scuba diver and made some interesting observations about the queue lighting and the attraction details.

That can also be due to just that CM that is running the line. Thankfully not all are like that, and let a lot more in stand by get seated. One time we had a CM who was barely letting ANYONE get on the Buzz ride get on, and it was just a stream of constant FP people. The line got pretty angry!! Eventually someone else took over for them and everything started running much smoother.

As far as comparing the two. I think they are just two very different rides. I'm sure I'll like the LM more, because I LOVE dark rides. And can get pretty sick on thrill rides. lol My guys will for sure be bigger fans of Star Tours, no question.

I haven't ridden either of them yet but I can't wait. I just can't believe that Disney could disappoint with TLM. It's one of their best films and dark rides are what they do best. :confused3

Hmm. Anything you'd like to share? :D

I've said it once and I'll say it again. NOTHING beats Snow White for abruptness. :lmao:

"...and they lived happily ever after."

Oh, my goodness - yes!

I've been going to Disneyland for about 45 years, and yes - we've always said that! There was room to do something more!

Went to DLR yesterday and rode both rides and loved them for different reasons :)

Although, I think my favorite thing yesterday was the Soundsational Parade!

We didn't thing we would be able to do all three news things at the park but we did with plenty of time to spare! I'm ready to go again :yay:

We also recently made the trek to DLR, and as a huge Little Mermaid fan, I would rate the three new attractions in order from first to worst as: Star Tours, Soundsational Parade and then Little Mermaid. All were good, but some were better than others. I think that we, as DISers and as APs (at least many of us are), are all so attached and have spent so much time watching these attractions grow from the ground up that in some ways they couldn't possibly meet all of our expectations after years of waiting.

We were lucky enough to get to ride ST 7 times over the course of 2 days and as both my DH and I won for different days. I got to see all 6 planets/destinations, but funnily enough we only saw the Millennium Falcon opening once and saw Admiral Ackbar every single ride. ST has ultimate repeatability. However, as a mom to a little one who was just barely above the 40 inch mark, I have to say that as much as I loved the fact that you didn't know what was going to happen each trip, my little one did not. In fact, he HATED the Naboo sequence and didn't want to ride anymore after that. We got him back on, but every time he was nervous that it was going to cycle to that trip segment again.

The parade was magnificent in every way and brought me back to the old parades that didn't have show stops and that were focused on the magic and showcasing Disney characters. And, while I love how the Christmas Parade and the Electrical Parade drum the same song into your head by repeating it over and over, I loved the way each new float unit brought a completely different and eclectic style of Disney music to the forefront. The attention to detail is stunning (look for a single little shrimp towards the back of the Little Mermaid main float) and the costumes are elaborate and over the top in all the right ways. I see myself wanting to watch this parade at least once every trip for the next several years.

As for LM, we arrived at DCA at 9 am on the first day of AP Previews (last Tuesday) and got in line for the park immediately. Once inside my DH headed back to the LM while I got Soarin' and WOC FPs for later. We were only about 60 people back from the front of the line and were on and off in time for me to hit the AP Pin Release at the Embarcadero and still meet my DH and DS for the 10:30 showing of Disney Junior Live. The ride was nice, but I could never see waiting an hour for it. In fact, later that day we were on our way to dinner and we hopped back into line because it looked short (the queue was routed completely different from the morning) and after 30 minutes and being less than halfway through the queue we slipped out. I love me some Ariel and Ursula, but I just wasn't committed enough to hold dinner off another 40 minutes to ride again.

It's just so...jarring. But if you really want to scar your kids, take them on Toad. Nothing like being hit by a train and going to hell to complete a trip to the happiest place on Earth.

How true! My DDs still won't go on Toad even as adults;)

Your son hated the Naboo segment? All of the kids who have ridden with me think that's one of the best scenes in the entire ride. That and Kashyyyk. I can understand how it could be a little scary though. Nothing like getting your windshield clean. (And by the way, the 3-D effect at the end of Naboo is fantastic. I love it. So much.) We got three scenes multiple times. Geonosis, Vader intro, and Hoth. I was so sick of Hoth by the end of the day. We only got Ackbar once, same for Leia. But Yoda multiple times.

But for ten rides, we got all of the scenes except for Coruscant. So I'm a happy camper.

I'm glad to hear Soundsational is great. Considering us WDWer's jacked Mainstreet Electrical, it's only fair. :rotfl:

And the Little Mermaid...I honestly think it looks pretty good. The only major problem I have is the finale. Kind of dissapointed giant Ursala didn't appear. (Even though the normal sized version of her is already huge.)

My vote goes to ST for SURE!! We rode both, ST only once (waits were way too long), LM multiple times, we loved them both but ST gets my vote every time....not only did I laugh thru the whole ride I was also chosen to be the rebel spy!! That was pretty much awesome! :) LM is very cute but it's not as "fun" as I found ST to be. :)

I totally agree with that statement. While I love the Haunted Mansion, for instance, I find the Indiana Jones Adventure to be more fun. Yet both are in my top three attractions. Make sense?
