My hubby read on the Star Wars discussion boards that DL is going to be updating Star Tours so that it is a pod race. Is this true?
I'm going to cry so hard if they include a pod race (or worse, make that the ONLY thing). The pod race was seriously the worst part of that awful movie for me, and I have NO interest in those episodes of the story.
My son, while getting off of ST the 3 times we went on it last week, said things like "that's the coolest ride on the earth!" and "that's the bestest ride on the planet!!!" Kids are born and grow up every second of every day (captain obvious here) and that ride will ALWAYS be cool to a little one, and I love it now too.
I actually really hope they have a choice, or it's random (choice = better), and that things can just be *based* on things, not exactly what the movies had in it.
Yeah, I agree. I like that the ride with the little robot who's name I can't remember isn't directly from the movie. Just based on the movies.
I do hope they keep the stimulator the same concept. I like it.
My concern is that an "update" based on the prequels are that they will not be fluid--but, as much as I love the ride--it does seem to be a little out of date right now. An update would be nice.
These rumors have been floating around for 8 years now, so I'll believe it when I actually see it. The podrace update rumor began shortly after Episode I was released. Doesn't mean it's not true, it just means that Star Wars geeks like myself have seen this rumor come back to life every so often.
Personally, i think it may be due for an update, but I will also be sad if they change it. One of my best memories from our recent trip was walking off Star Tours with my 3 yr old and 5 yr old, and having my 5 yr old exclaim "This must be the place where they train the new robots, Mom, cause I have rode this ride lots of times now, and every time I go on there's a robot driving who has never driven before! I think this is where they teach them to fly before they let them for real fly in real space!"![]()

Captain Rex from the cockpit is played by Paul Reubens.
I personally feel an update is long overdue.
