Hubby always feels gross after we ride star tours. He also avoids teacups, carousel, etc. Any recommendations for what he can do/take so he doesn't get nauseous. Also, to complicate things, it would have to be something I could buy up here in Canada.

I am the same with motion sickness (plane, boat, back seat of car, POV movies or games, etc), and I use the travel bands that go on your wrists when I travel by plane or boats. I don't need gravol since I started using them, even on very turbulent flights. They are a wonder. I am really hoping that they do their magic on the rides as well. Otherwise, there will be a lot of waiting for me.

I too suffer terribly when riding star tours (not any others that I know of knock wood) so last year I used Bonine and it helped a lot. I tried it first by taking it the night before the flight and was able to get though almost all of Star Tours the next day in the evening before I had to close my eyes but it was really a step up from the year before. The first time I rode it in 2012 I got so sick I couldn't enjoy anything the rest of the day even after a nap.

I ended up taking it every night before going to bed and didn't have a problem on the entire trip. I don't like the teacups anyway so I don't know if it would work for that, but it did work for me on Star Tours.

Have you tried ginger pills?
Supposed to help with nausea. I took Bonine on our cruise once and it worked decently.

If motion sickness is extreme, there is little that will help. There is nothing that would allow me to ride Star Tours. Hope you find something.

I've felt sick after Star Tours before. I noticed I got the same feeling sometimes while watching others play video games, but never when I played myself. I was able to minimize it or get rid of it altogether on our last trip by pretending to "fly" the starspeeder. By anticipating future movements and concentrating on where we're headed I was able to keep from getting sick. Sounds a bit odd, but it worked for me and actually made the ride a lot more fun.

I was never bothered with motion sickness on the original Star Tours. Now I have been told by some that have been on the new Star Tours they had experienced motion sickness, but had not on the original. I find that interesting. I have not been yet on the new version. One cast member told me that if you sit in the very back row, that might make a difference, for it had for her in that she felt fine. Before that, she had sat further down, and felt not so well.
I hate motion sickness. I had no idea it was going to be a problem once upon a time ago visiting ToT. :faint:
So now, I only walk through it. Although I have been tempted to get on again. But like man, not without some precautionary measures taken first! Lol

I have no problems with any of the other attractions you mentioned, but I CANNOT go on Star Tours. The shaking, it just unnerves me and gets me feeling very odd and shaky and nervous and and and.... I just can't do it.

It may not be an issue of something he can "take" as it just might be the effect of the specific motion.

Interesting. I could not ride the old version, but I love the new Star Tours. It does not bother me at all. I can't do spinning rides, and lately roller coasters have started to get to me. I take meclizine before every trip now. I start the night before and take it each night during the trip and I have no issues. But even when taking this, the old version of ST bothered me. I'm good to go now though.

I can only take so much of Star Tours before I start to get nauseous, but for me it is alleviated by closing my eyes. I know that doesn't work for everyone --- sometimes that's the opposite of what most people need to do. But for some reason I can deal with any of the motion as long as I can't see anything.
Maybe that would work for him?

Oh sorry, should have added to our family uses OTC Gravol (bought in Canada) for just about all the ails us when it comes to nausea.

I'm one of those that could mostly ride the original Star Tours, but cannot ride the new version without getting motion sick. I think it has to do with the new 3D movie. I have a hard time focusing on 3D movies in general, and Star Tours was pretty brutal for me. My eyes couldn't find anything on the screen that they could keep in focus (kind of like when you look out of a car's side window and see the scenery go by), so I think that's what was causing the motion sickness. I've been tempted to go one more time and keep my eyes closed for the whole time and see (no pun intended) if I can ride it without getting motion sick (though, it kind of seems like a waste of a ride to do that).

I second Bonine. It's available over the counter in the US. In Canada it may be sold under a different brand name, but Meclizine is the drug name if you need to ask a pharmacist. DH and I use this when we scuba dive -- we both get motion sickness on small boats. If you take one the night before and one a couple of hours before the ride it should work well. Good luck.

I took Dramamine because it used to make me very nasious and now I can usually ride it without it.

I know that many of the stores in the parks sell some over the counter meds (e.g., Rotibussin, pain killer, etc.). Do they sell any motion sickness preventative meds? I know they sell stuff for once you've gotten motion sick (e.g., Tums), but I've never thought to ask about preventative meds.

I always used to feel sick after Star Tours, but kept going on it because I'm a huge Star Wars nerd. I didn't like the idea of taking medication for ONE ride, so I did some research and found the anti-nausea pressure point in the wrist, P6. It's just below the point where the bones of your forearm come together. (Check online to see how to find it.)

It works so well! I just apply some pressure there with my thumb while I'm walking through the line and waiting to load. Depending on the version of the ride, I sometimes find I have to apply a little more pressure after the ride, (There's something about Coruscant that my stomach really doesn't like.) but usually it's not neccesary. It's easy, quick, requires no pre-medicating, no special training, and WORKS.

Once in the USA, you can buy meclizine, which is usually non-drowsy, and lasts a long time. You can also look for motioneaze on ebay, etc. (they also don't sell that in Canada.) It's a herbal type blend of oil, very small vial but lasts a long time, that you dab behind your ears. People swear by it, reviews on amazon, etc. are excellent. With those two options, and wrist bands worn all the time, I manage well, and I can't even go for a car ride as a passenger, even in the front seat, for a 10 min. drive without feeling nauseated. Good luck!!

Same thing for me. If I can focus on something, I fine.

It was the same for me with California Screamin' - by knowing the banks and turns, etc., (pre-watched it on youtube a lot to get to know it beforehand) it was fine. Although, I admit, I had gravol, etc., in my system.

I also take meclizine (brand name bonine) each morning before I go into the parks. works well for all the rides and does not make you sleepy (like dramamine). Also, bring "Ginger Chews" (found them at Trader Joes) or something like that , that you can chew on when you start to feel sick.....works right away. DH has closed his eyes on Star Tours in parts where he felt a little motion sick and that worked, too.

The two rides that "get" me are Space and Screamin', Star Tours used to bother me a LOT but not anymore, the new ride is so much better for me. I used to ride ST only in the back row where I could push myself back up against the wall and I could put my hands up if I needed to, for whatever reason the hands up helped me too. I've taken Bonine before but prefer not to take meds so I only take that if I'm planning on riding more than 1 of the two above rides more than once a day. lol
