Hi all. How much do you move on Star Tours? Are there lots of dips and jarring movements? Or is it more like.... Soarin or Captain EO? I have never been on Star Tours, and do get woosey on planes sometimes (like, extended periods of bumpy....), but do fine on BTMRR, RnRC, EE, Soarin', ToT, etc. Is it super intense? Any motion sickness sufferers do this ride? What are your tips? I've heard Len Testa say that he has to close his eyes on this ride- does that help??

TIA! :thumbsup2

If you are OK on the rides you mentioned in your post, then you'll be fine on Star Tours.

However, I'd stay away from the more intense version of Mission: Space and maybe even The Sum of All Thrills, although you may be OK on it.

Ugh, it makes me sooo sick! :crazy2: The old version didn't, so I am not sure what the deal is. It is the only ride at WDW that does (although the old Body Wars was the worst for me and motion sickness). That said, I pop a bonine every morning (just in case we wind up at DHS) and have not had a problem since.

I had the opposite experience. I was fine on all the other rides you mention, soarin, Captain EO, etc.

However, I had a problem with Star Tours 3D, not sure if it was the 3D and the motion at the same time, but it made me woozy. We went on it twice in the same day with some time between each ride and both times I was dizzy coming off.

Worst case scenario you go on it and find out and then never ride it again.

It is definitely more intense than Soarin. You move around in the car quite a bit. My husband gets motion sick and cannot ride this one. He can do Soarin but not tea cups or any of the simulator rides at US/IOA.
It's an awesome ride. My boys and I just leave DH in the gift shop and ride.

Hmmmm..... yeah I think we'll sit this one out then :thumbsup2

Gives me more time to take another ride on ToT :rotfl2:

I think the movement is much more intense than Soarin'. It does have a bunch of dips and quick, sudden movements esp. depending on what sequence you get.

I get motion sick pretty easily and have had a hard time on this ride in the past. My husband never, ever gets motion sick and he even got sick after our daughter insisted on a second ride with him. Now, that was on our first two trips in 2011 and 2012. My daughter and I went on a solo trip this summer for SWW and rode it 9 times in two days, including 6 times in one day, and I was fine. So I don't know what's up with it. It did seem like the AC was running colder this summer than on our past fall trips, so maybe that's it (my motion sickness gets exponentially worse if I get hot).

I would just try it once and see how you react. There is a lot of (simulated) jarring and bumpiness, but it's mostly due to 3D tricks and not actual movement in the ride. I don't know if my body finally figured that out or what.

ETA: On one of our rides this summer we were in the back row (after being in row 2 or 3 all previous rides) and the motion and the immersion in the ride was a lot less. So if you're worried about motion sickness, maybe request a seat in one of the rows near the back.

Well, yes, it is more intense than Soarin'. But it's NOT as near as intense as Big Thunder, Rock n Roller Coaster, and Everest, which the starter of the thread said were fine.

I can't do tea cups at all. I'm fine riding Star Tours once and have no issues. I love it. But definitely watch out if you are thinking about riding it a couple of times in a row really close together. If it is a walk on line, and we get off and go around and get right back on, sometimes I feel a little dizzy for a couple minutes, and sometimes not. Once, it was walk on and DD wanted to ride it 3 times in a row, I didn't feel so good for a little while after that. I won't be agreeing to 3 times in a row again, 2 is my limit!

Agreed. I can, and have, done the most intense coasters in the country, but there is something different about Star Tours, and I think it's the 3D. It's like they crank up the intensity of the 3D to a level that it makes my eyes have a harder time focusing. It's the only ride at Disney that has made be feel a little off. I didn't feel sick, but it wasn't a good feeling either.

It's hard to compare it to a coaster like EE, RnRC, SM... they are apples and oranges.

I ride all of the coasters and ToT with no problem. I do ride Star Tours because I like it a lot, but if I ride it more than once, I kind of wish I hadn't.

Hmmm, you may be on to something there. I definitely have felt the effects less when in the back rows. I'll have to remember that for next time.

For people that have ridden both Star Tours and Mission: Space----compare how each can make you feel "a little off".

MS is probably better to compare and contrast to ST than any of the roller coasters. (Wish Body Wars was still in operation.)

I don't think it is necessiarly the movement that gets people motion sick with this ride. I think it is the movement + the movie that screws up some people's equilibrium.

OMG, this ride was the only one that made me so sick - DH and DS (6) were just fine and wanted to go on again. I felt sick if I looked at the movie, sick if I closed my eyes - I just had my eyes open and looked at a side wall, LOL! We're going again soon, and I said this is the one ride I refuse to go on again!

I much prefer the new Star Tours to the old one. DH gets vertigo on EE, SM and RNRC, but he loves ST. I can ride all of them but I get seasick. Go figure.

I can't do the teacups AT ALL.:sick:Yet i can handle star tours fine.I have also been on the orange side of mission space more than 30 times(ap since 2003) and have NEVER gotten sick on that ride either for some reason.

Haven't been on the new Star Tours yet. Trying to figure out if our 4-year-old can (or should) go on with us or if we have to do a parent swap (which I haven't fully figured out).

I did ST twice last time. My equilibrium was so bad, I crashed into the opposite wall as we were exiting.

I am presently in vestibular therapy to help my equilibrium problem and my ENT is going to give me a light dose of valium for our trip.

I will definitely post on whether or not it helped.

I am susceptible to motion sickness and Star Tours basically ruined my evening. ugh. I thought I was going to vomit.

I had the same experience with the Harry Potter quiddich ride.

I am ok with ToT and RnRR. The problem isn't the motion - as one poster said above, its the disconnect between the visual and the ride movement.
