Warning, if you haven't been or don't want to know about the ride stop reading.

I'm hoping this can clear up some confusion for some people while revealing few details.

Many people remark after riding multiple times that the scenes are the same. With 54 different rides, what are the chances? Not about 2%, actually the odds of getting a repeat on the ride is %50.

Highlight text below to see why.
The ride has 4 different parts, each coming in a variety.

In a very general description this is how the ride varies.
2 opening scenes, 3 second scences, 3 third scenes, 3 fourth scenes.
2x3x3x3=54.
But as you may see of the four scences, the odds of it being a certain one is %50 or %33. Good chances compared to roulette.

So that's why all the repeating can be seen.

Mathmatically it makes perfect sense :teacher: but I think the marketing on this ride is what lead us to believe that the chances of getting the same ride twice was low. Either way, it was a fun ride to be on!:upsidedow

Well we are going to ride it at least twice 5 of the 6 days we get there. I hope we can get each option at least once...but from reports it is rather difficult...but we will still enjoy.

I wish you would have posted this a week ago... :) The first 2 times I rode it this past weekend were completely different. The 3rd & 4th times I visited 2 new locations. The 5th through 9th times I had seen it all. I didn't realize there was such a small number of people / locations until I looked it up online last night. Thanks for sharing!!!

Yes, all that is true. But we saw the same planet first 7 times in a row. All the other things were mixed up each time. DH has a degree in math and says the chances of us randomly seeing that one 7 times in a row is unlikely therefor he believes that Disney was not random with that one. It could have been heavily weighted to come up or maybe for whatever reason, at that time they programed that planet in.

I never saw anything where Disney said each scene was given equal chance. There are 54 combinations but they didn't say you have an equal chance of seeing each one. Maybe one planet was programed to come up 5 times for every one time of the others. Possibly having to do with the mechanics of the ST pod. Maybe certain planets are more stressful on the machine and not used as much.

Was that the Wookie planet?? That seemed to be my most frequent visit!

My husband & I were speaking with a CM elsewhere in the park and he referred to planets and people that were rare. If that is correct, there is not an equal chance...

Well, they only say that you have the potential to see 54 different possible ride combinations. They never say how many times through it will take to actually experience all of them. If anyone's curious (note, super spoilers ahead!!):

At the beginning of the attraction you may be stopped by either a Droid or Darth Vader.

You can then experience one of three different planets: Kashyyyk, Hoth, or a pod race scene.

There are three possible Hologram messages that you could get: Princess Leia, Yoda, or Admiral Ackbar.

And then three Finale planets of which I can't recall all three at the moment.

But of course you're most likely to repeat pieces of the puzzle, so you have to continually go on the attraction to see all of them, and coincidentally boost the attraction's hourly numbers. Quite brilliant actually.

No, it was the snow planet with the At Ats. 7 times in a row. The first time we saw something else but I forget what it was because all I remember is snow. :rotfl: We saw all the other "parts" but never saw the pod race.

I could give 2 squats about ST however that little hidden highlighty thing you did? WAY cool!!! :thumbsup2

And then three Finale planets of which I can't recall all three at the moment.
  1. Coruscant (buzz droids, space city)
  2. Death Star (chased by Boba Fett)
  3. Naboo (underwater)
Naboo is the best single scene IMO.

I've ridden Star Tours about 9 or 10 times since it opened and the snow planet (aka "Hoth") is the ONE destination that I have NOT seen yet. I get insanely jealous whenever I hear of someone visiting Hoth. LOL! And you saw it 7 times in a row!!! Next time you visit DL, I need to tag along. :goodvibes

I've seen the pod race around 5 times. And the wookie planet about 4. But I'm still waiting for the snowy vistas of Hoth on one of my rides. One day, I'll eventually get there...

That is hilarious! :rotfl: You should have been with my family! "Not snow again!" You should tag along. Then at least one of us will get to see something new. :rotfl:

I think the speculation that the combo is skewed to favor certain planets based on ride wear is a solid idea. Makes complete sense, particularly if they can adjust it periodically. And thanks to the OP for the math :thumbsup2

You all are keying in on some points I was trying to make in my review of Star Tours too. I definitely agree that the marketing of the ride is leading people to believe they won't get the same ride twice, and we should all manage our expectations. I also think there are some planets/scenes that are in "heavy rotation." Here's my review from when the ride opened at Walt Disney World.

That was interesting. Thanks for the link. Out of the 8 times we saw it, we only saw Darth Vader twice. So we definately noticed that the storm troopers came up more often. We saw a good mixture of the in between characters though.

Spoilers, spoilers!

Maybe it was the heat, but we saw it 3 times and we saw Chewbacca on our windshield every time, isn't that the pod race sceen with the Wookie camp!?!? I'm confused.

We did not see any snow that I recall, nor the underwater , which sounds very cool.
We saw Darth opening twice, Yoda twice, Princess Leah Once, and 2 different endings (death star twice and the other non-underwater one once).

The CM we spoke to said Darth Vader is rare, which I was suprised at because I saw him so often!! :rolleyes1

The Wookie planet is not the same as the pod race. I really enjoy the underwater scene! I am thinking the snowy location (Hoth?) is rare, also.
