Star Tours and motion sickness

I can do all of the simulators at Universal (other than FJ) and get way less motion sick than Star Tours. It's not short either, or at least it doesn't feel short

Does the patch make you sleepy? All of the Dramamine type drugs knock me out
Nope. The common side effects are dry mouth and if you accidentally touch the patch and then touch your eye (get any residue from it in your eye) it can cause blurry near-vision which is why I prevent that by placing a band aid over it.

I just see the patch once on a cruise and had the worst dry mouth and drowsiness of my life. I felt so terrible. It was like a terrible hangover. I had to remove the patch and sleep it off.

Regarding star tours, I do get sick on it, but I've found that if I start to feel sick, I can just close my eyes the rest of the time.

Thanks! I really have to look into this. My motion sickness has amped up a lot over the past few years

Ask for the back row - I used to get quesy but the CMs told me the back row is the least motion. Works like a charm for me!

My husband can't do spinning rides but is fine on ST. My DD sometimes gets motion sick if she reads in the car and she was fine for a couple times in a row. I have an iron stomach and am more resistant to motion sickness than most (had a trip to the Great Barrier Reef where probably 2/3 of the boat was sick and I was fine). But if I do the Minions ride at Uni more than once it starts to get to me. I was told by someone very familiar with 3D imaging that's because the alignment has to be perfect between the two images or it will start to bother people who are sensitive to that. I had no problems riding ST 3 times in a row so it's probably a pretty good alignment of images.

All that said, I think motion sickness is s pretty personal thing. They probably have to ride to know so maybe plan to ride before you plan to leave in case it's a problem. I know some people who've been helped by taking ginger pills if you don't want to risk the drowsiness that Dramomine can case.

This ride seems far too similar to the old Body Wars ride for me to even consider riding it, but my kids are big Star Wars fans so I'm wondering how kids seem to tolerate it in general. 2 out of 3 of them will occasionally get car sick or get sick on the plane, but (knock on wood) so far they haven't had an issue with rides. My oldest has done Everest, RnR, and Splash and they've all done rides like BTMRR, 7DMT, Test Track, Barnstormer, Kali, and Dinosaur without complaining about feeling sick.

The motion simulators are the absolute worst for me, so this one makes me nervous for kids who do at times get motion sickness. Body Wars in particular messed me up for hours. Just wondering how other kids have fared on this one, particularly if they have had some car sickness or other motion sickness in the past.

TIA!
I don't handle motion simulators well either and my kids are car sick prone. Star Tours is a well synced motion simulator so it isn't as bad as some I have done. But that doesn't mean I don't feel a bit queasy. The easy thing about these kinds of rides is that all you have to do is shut your eyes and it eliminates the input that makes you feel sick. I talked to my kids about this while we were in line and both my daughter and I closed our eyes for part of the ride when it was starting to bother us, and that kept it from turning into something that got worse and lingered forever. My sons were able to watch the whole ride with no trouble.

I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan - but I can't ride ST because it makes me so sick. I don't "normally" get sick on most mild coasters, TT, water rides. Tea Cups and Mission Space I can't ride. I leave Soarin until the very end of the day and close my eyes during much of it. Maybe over time I will be able to say I've seen the whole movie. The movies in Canada and France make me ill - I only go if I want the air-conditioned break and I just leave my eyes closed the whole time!

You aren't going to know with your kids until they try it. Tips to make it go better - make sure they are well hydrated - and its probably best to not go right after a full meal. If you are worried - leave it towards the end of the day - so if someone gets sick - it doesn't ruin their whole day. Tell them if they start to feel sick - to close their eyes and that will help alot.

Medicines work for some. Closing eyes part of the time works for some. There's no way to know in advance.

I have a really hard time with this ride but love Everest, Tower of Terror, etc. I hadnt been on in years, so I went on it once last time and then while my family rode again I headed over to Tower of Terror! For perspective, I don't do well with spinny rides, like the teacups...and apparently some simulators.

my daughter gets motion sickness but only on long duration trips like planes and cars. Rides she is fine on. I am the other way around. Star Tours threw me last time but I recovered quickly.

Is it a short ride then? If so, I may be more likely to have them all go on it. For some reason I had it in my head this was a long one.

The actual ride is less than five minutes. Since your kids don't seem to have a flat out "habit" of motion sickness, I would suggest they go on this BUT you don't say anything to them about your worries. I would also suggest you plan on having an hour after just in case.

Really? Ugh. Ok so maybe it's something I would want to test first!

Hubby only will do Star Tours once during our trip and he has to close his eyes during some of the parts. He will never do Soarin' or any motion simulator type rides. My friend puked after doing Star Tours for the first time but she can't handle any type of simulators or jerky rides.

But if your kids do fine on everything else, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yep, and it's really just a bit over four minutes (YouTube video is total 7:14, ST film begins at 3:00) Body Wars was the ultimate vomit comet, whew that was a rough ride. I don't think ST is as bad, and it's a lot more fun than BW was. Good luck!

It makes me a little queasier than most rides, even having taken meclizine (never dramamine, I like being awake at the parks). I think part of it has to do with the 3D simulation as well--it just adds another dimension to everything, and that's what makes me really woozy, though.

Body Wars was WAY worse, I thought, though I'm not sure if it's because you were looking at bodily fluids while motion simulating or if it's because it was just a rougher ride.

My DS13 does fine with Star tours and roller coasters but can get motions sickness on a cruise or long car ride. I'm a mess for any motion sickness
but the children want me with them on Star tours so I close my eyes and am able to make it through the ride successfully. But once per day is my limit

My son suffers from motion sickness, but he isn't affected by Star Tours.

On our recent trip, we had a different ride than we did on our previous trip, and that ride was pretty rough with a lot of sudden jerking and bouncing. So, it may depend on which simulation you get as to the amount of motion.

By comparison, I don't find Star Tours to be nearly as bad as Body Wars was. Did Body Wars once, and that was enough. That said, sometimes I'll be a little off for a bit after riding Star Tours, but most times not. Perhaps it makes a difference which experience I get. I've also learned that I can ride Star Tours once or maybe twice consecutively, but that's about enough.
