Star JOnes is leaving the view...

Anybody see the interview with Debbie Matenopoulas ? Seems she and Star were real close buds until Debbie got canned by Baba Wawa. She said she felt just like Star is feeling now, abandoned and backstabbed by people thought of as friends. I love when people get what they give!

Where did you see this interview? I always tought the way they treated Debbie was terrible. I don't think they even mentioned her name for 6 months. I am sure BW told them not to talk to her, and I guess if you value your job you do what the boss says. I think the way BW is handling this really shows the kind of person she is. Did you notice that Star really didn't answer Larry King when he asked her if BW would lie.

Star said on the Today show that this would be the last time she would talk about it and I believe her. She also said that she would have done her wedding differently. IMHO all the talk about her not telling about her wight loss surgery is just mean. Some people don't tell all their personnal business, and Star has always been one to share what she wants but not everything.

As others have pointed out, Star told the truth and ABC is trying to make her look bad for doing what BW said she could do, tell the story her way. I have always thought that BW was a big fake.

I will watch The View in Sept. and wonder if BW will be on more often. Maybe they'll not get another co-host, just have BW on everyday. I have always thought that when all 5 were on together it was just to much and there was always a different tone when BW was on.

I thought Star gave a great interview to LK. I don't care for her but I do believe her. BW doesn't like the reality side of show business aired in public. It is interesting to get a glipse of this side of Babs. I always knew she was a tough cookie.

It must have been painful for Star to hear that Rosie was bashing her publicly and in the same week have Babs tell you that she hired Rosie to replace Meredith. I would have felt betrayed also. :guilty: I know that's show business.

Star said Babs told her to wrap herself around Rosie replacing Meredith. Is that her way of saying, "get over it!" :confused3

Lori

Well said. I don't watch the view because I work and I really am not a fan of anyone on the show but I will say that I think Star took the high road during her exit speach and during the LK interview. Of course, if she ever wants to work in the t.v. business again, she had no choice but to do so. I do believe her and think BW misled the viewers. In no way did I get the impression that Star was implying she quit on Tuesday after watching the clips. It was also very obvious that Star had gastric bypass and never denied it. She has the right to her privacy as far as medical issues go and if she did not want to come right out and say it, so be it. You would have to be a moron not to understand what medical intervention meant. :confused3

I think Meredith jumped ship just in time because that puppy is sinking fast. :boat:

See? THis is what I don't get. HOW did Star burn BW?

By going on a public rampage about how Barbara Walters screwed her over with not renewing the contract. It's a business. It was a corporate decision to protect a company's bottom line. It isn't about friendship. Star Jones is not entitled to sit on that couch - it's a job. Barbara Walters gave her the opportunity to leave before she was "fired" - it's a VERY common practice for managers who have to let employees go to allow them to resign before they are fired. Essentially that's what happened.

I watched the repeat of the interview and it was full of backhanded insults. Just because you say it with a smile doesn't mean you're not insulting someone.

She's ticked that they made her leave after that show. The producers were TRYING to work with her and the fact that she decided to sneak in and announce before the "official" announcement date made her unpredictable. I have worked in radio for a number of years and it is standard practice when dealing with live broadcasting to not allow someone on the air.

There's such a thing as leaving gracefully and such a thing as making a scene.

I didn't watch the show--but to shock her co-workers by making her own announcement on her own...was classless.

None of hte other departures this summer--not one single person did this to any of their co-workers (that I'm aware)--the announcement was timed and known properly.

I'm sure on Thursday they would have done a *little* something for her...but for her to be a witch and unpredictably pull that stunt...I say good riddance!

The opening of todays show featuring The Devil Wears Prada was very interesting.......
Knowing all that went on you could just feel the tension when Star said that Barbara is the Boss and that female bosses can be sneaky..........

There is no way they would let her back on the air of a live show after she already "surprised" them once with her announcement........

I used to like Star but she got way out of control with her wedding. Her ego was way out of control...even the way she spoke on Larry KIng about "using her celebrity".........I know most stars do "use their celebrity" at one time or another..but I still like a bit more understanding and humbleness from folks who are blessed enough to be so successful........

and now there are three........ :dance3: ( now I know what this smilie means hahaha)

Exactly.

She said in the interview last night that she did it because she didn't want to go out "in a circus." BULL!! She's not a stupid woman. She knew that by catching the entire crew offguard like that, that it would create an even bigger circus than a few blurbs in newspapers ever would. She NEEDS the circus to drum up a little PR for herself. I can't help but believe this was a very calculate maneuver on her part.

I can't help but feel no sympathy for anyone who chooses a career in the public venue when they cry about tabloids, rumors, etc. It's no big secret that it comes with the territory. It's the career you chose, and if it bothers you that much - choose another path.

ITA!
Also, I think she came off as a complete phony on Larry King last night.

Too True!!! Its like Brittney Spears crying about the press and that she can not be left alone .....and then posing naked and pregnant on a magazine !!
(By the way......Demi's cover was better....... :artist: )

Star created the circus............she :stir:

I didnt see the interview and didnt get to watch the show when she announced she was quitting. I did get to watch on Merediths last day and I thought she mentioned that Star was next. Meredith acted like it she wasnt supposed to say anything. Does anyone remember this?

I agree. She could have gone out with a planned announcement saying she was choosing to leave and had a lovely farewell. She's made millions from her time on the view, she would have been wiser to suck up her sour grapes and move on.

I think too much is being made of the Rosie thing, since it appears this decision was made before the Meredith/Rosie decisions. I didn't like how in her little speech on the View she made little implied jabs at Rosie. That could be taken as trying to sabotage the new format. Had she not taken the timing into her own hands, left out the Rosie jabs, and not told interviews she felt fired - she could have left gracefully.

Lots of people, celebrity or not, have experienced not getting a contract renewed. Although it may feel fired, it is not the same thing.

I don't think it was the wisest move on Star's part to screw with one of the most well respected women in TV journalism. But that's just me. :)

I listened to most of Larry King, and I applaud that he made it clear that he had spoken to Barbara prior to his interview. Star wasn't too thrilled about that.

I also give credit to the Larry King producers. Larry asked Star specifically about the weight-loss surgery, and she insisted she never denied it. They then played a tape of an earlier interview Larry had done with Star where she specifically avoided the question of surgery.

It didn't do much to further her cause. I guess she should go look for a gig on cable, because I think she killed her career on the 3 major networks.

Yep.

What's that saying--don't burn any bridges....

I think she burned ALL of them.

I watched this show a little when I was in college but now that I work full time I rarely see it. I mostly watched it because there was nothing else on and never really loved it. I also never really loved Star(although I don't dislike her either.) But I think this is a big mess on both sides. I think it was a series of events that went wrong and now both sides are trying to cover themselves. Although it might have gone a little easier if Star had waited till Thursday to make her announcement. All she did was draw more attention to the issue. (And as a celebrity she had to realize this would happen.)

But I did notice that some of the things she said on Larry King she said almost work for word on the Today show this morning. That was interesting.

I hate The View. I have only seen it a few times when I was home from work. I've never seen such a group of women so full of themselves. And the stories and guests are a yawn.

So I could not care less who left and who is coming.

Give me any number of courtroom shows (People's Court, etc) that are on at the same timei nstead of The View!

Oh, that would have been hilarious! I wish I had that taped!

What i don't like about it, if their guest don't have the same "view" as them, they blast them and barely let them speak their mind. joy behar can be ruthless at times. sometimes the crosstalk is so bad you can't understand what they're even saying. still, if i'm home, i usually have it on .

I bet that Meridith has been watching the show at home just shaking her head thankful that she hasn't had to deal with this mess.

The thing that really bothers me. . .she thinks she's friggin' hilarious and tries (stress that TRIES) to have a punchline for everything. . . and ends up failing miserably but laughing at herself so much I don't think she even realizes she's the only one laughing.

What does "jump the shark " mean?

As said I KNOW Payless will hire her....they always need cashiers esp when the kids go back to college! I hope she does not get a show b/c her ego is so big I am afraid it will cause her giant bobble head to explode!

Comes from the episode of Happy Days when the Fonz "jumped the shark" on skis. It's become a standard phrase when talking about a show that hit its peak and is on a downhill slide (usually because of one very off the wall episode or time frame that put the nail in the coffin for it)
