Star JOnes is leaving the view...

.....Barbara Walters pretty much plucked her from obscurity and gave her a tv career, and tried to make this contract non-renewal as easy as possible for Star, just to be burned. Why would anyone with the power to help her out put themselves on the line after seeing how she just feels entitled to get her way and will turn on those that give her a helping hand?

See? THis is what I don't get. HOW did Star burn BW?

I just saw that.

I believe people wanted to see her break down and cry or ***** about being fired. That way they'd be able to talk about how emotional and out of control she was. Since she didn't do either one, they now feel the need to label her behavior as "strange".

I wonder who will replace her on the show.

The last thing I expected was for her to cry, break down or witch about being fired. She did sound strange, too breathy, too soft, my daughter even asked if Star was having breathing problems. I watched because I wanted to see what she had to say. I really liked Star on the View and although I can't watch anymore because of my job I'll miss seeing her on my occasional day off. (I really hate Joy Behr).

The View has "jumped the shark" - if it lasts through next year I'll be surprised.

What I find interesting is that BW keeps referring to ABC not renewing the contract, as though it's some mysterious corporate entity over which she has no control. Isn't BW the executive producer of this show? Doesn't she make all the hiring and firing decisions, or have at least a significant role to play in them?? If she was able to handpick her cast nine years ago, has she given up the power to "unpick" them??

I think a little honesty from Barbara would go a long way, too.

As far as Star's fake smile and insincerity, I thouht she was fighting for composure through most of the interview. She certainly was picking her words carefully, but she's an attorney and she was probably mindful of how they would be picked apart later. Also, she just looked...nervous...to me. I imagine she's been under tremendous strain and pressure, and if I were in that position, I'd probably have looked like a deer in the headlights.

Oh, and she did admit to a surgical weight loss procedure, did anyone catch that????

Still not a fan of having Rosie on, though. The one I'll really miss is Meredith.

And I think The View has jumped the shark, too.

I never expected her to cry. I just expected her to be herself.
I'm sorry but it's very strange to keep a constant smile on while being interviewd. Also, she acted like she hasn't read anything anyone has written about her in the past couple of days. I find that hard to believe.

I agree CPM! When she said, "it's the first time I've seen this" to Barbara's comments, I found that very unbelievable. She seemed way too planned and rehearsed and I think she's doing all this for attention. She could easily have waited until Thursday, announced it like planned and gone out peacefully with Barbara's blessing. I think she is planning that her viewers will be outraged and she'll soon get another fantastic gig, but it's clear that her fan base is not strong enough and Barbara is way above her in the power struggle. Hope she's locked up another job already, or she'll quickly find Barbara's ensured doors are closed when she comes knocking.
I didn't like the way she'd passively-aggressively slam by saying, "Well, I'm going to take the high road here unlike other people, so I'll just say..." It implies that she's not being catty, while at the same time being very catty slamming someone else.

I can't stand the View and rarely watch, but I agree that it's jumped the shark and this is the beginning of the end. I predict a short ratings spike in Sept. when Rosie and Star's replacement join, followed by a crash and burn.

Larry King asking hardball questions. When was the last time we saw that!

Why she made the announcement two days early - Media was leaking that her contract wasn't being renewed and she had enough.

Weight loss - She had medical procedures, but her excess weight was becoming a health issue.

Rosie - All one sided. Rosie is attacking her and her family.

Wedding favors - She admitted to using her "celebrity" to gain favors for the wedding and ABC was ok with some of it.

Statement from ABC - Thursday was suppose to be her last day, part of the reason she was not renewed is that fans didn't like her off camera persona.

People magazine article - She won't admit to being fired on Larry King, but the tone of the article was that she was fired. Guess I'll have to read the article.

Good luck Star, some of your answers will lead to more questions, but you left on your own terms, so Barbara shouldn't be upset about that.

I thought Star gave a great interview to LK. I don't care for her but I do believe her. BW doesn't like the reality side of show business aired in public. It is interesting to get a glipse of this side of Babs. I always knew she was a tough cookie.

It must have been painful for Star to hear that Rosie was bashing her publicly and in the same week have Babs tell you that she hired Rosie to replace Meredith. I would have felt betrayed also. :guilty: I know that's show business.

Star said Babs told her to wrap herself around Rosie replacing Meredith. Is that her way of saying, "get over it!" :confused3

Well, I never get to watch the show now that I work full-time. I always enjoyed Star. I started watching the show from day one and Star has always been straight forward about her faith, I don't wee why anyone would says that she "turned Jesus freak?"

At any rate, I hope her future success. As for Rosie, I quit watching her show years ago, because it became a soap opera so I am not looking at her addition to The View as a good thing.

Since I have not been able to watch it in a long time, I am guessing that this show has changed a bit?

this is exactly WHY i can't watch the show- for some reason all i notice is stars breathing when she takes in air while talking....she had it when she was bigger, maybe it is asthma??

She didn't seem insincere to me either. I just don't get why BW and ABC is so ticked - they didn't renew her contact (that is fired) and they wanted her gone which is exactly what happened. Why was Thursday the magical announcement day? What harm did she bring on Tuesday by saying the show was going in another direction and that she held her own future. I must be missing something. I'm not even a fan of hers but I just don't get how so many of you think she looks bad.
I have a feeling that there is more to all of this than we can see.

You know what I'm bothered by? How she squaks this "how can I lie to my viewers?" BS when she's the queen of mincing words!?!? We need a Star-to-English dictionary.

Medical Intervention (n): you can't lose it on your own so your stomach is medically reduced by 95%. Tell everyone you ate smaller portions.
Contract not renewed (v): your opportunist a** got fired
The privacy card (n): 1. pull out this winning card when you don't want to be held accountable for answering a tough question, 2. use this to appear superior when asked to dog a colleague

Normally, if someone in my real life came up to me and acted like that (timid, graceful, sad), I would totally believe them. But the more I realize that she is an intelligent, law-schooled, TV personality, the less I can believe her. I do feel that she is hurt (who wouldn't be!?), but she is riding this my-contract-wasn't-renewed pony for all it's worth.

I totally agree with the above. BW needs to get over herself. Personally, I think that Star looks great. I do not know why folks think Al is gay, was there something written about this, or again, purely speculation?

Excellent points, I totally agree with you.

I am know fan of Star but I don't care for BW either. She comes across as some caring, concerned person. She is phony and out for herself. If she wanted Star to stay on the show I believe she would still be there. Putting Rosie on the show is a joke. She is a very angry gay women. She dosen't care who she attacks. I also think Joy is know angel. She looks like a backstabbing B****. The show was not the greatest before but it is getting worse. I feel sorry for Elizabeth. All these power hungry old bitties fighting it out. Very sad. This is the example that keeps women looking the way they do. I think it's time to break the women up. Mix it up with some men. Barbara needs to retire.

Anybody see the interview with Debbie Matenopoulas ? Seems she and Star were real close buds until Debbie got canned by Baba Wawa. She said she felt just like Star is feeling now, abandoned and backstabbed by people thought of as friends. I love when people get what they give!

I'm not sure what one has to do with the other :confused3 You can be gay without being angry and angry without being gay. I don't understand what you are trying to say here. I don't much care for Rosie but her sexuality has nothing to do with it.

:wave2: I did! I did!

So basically she was treated the same way as Star's being treated including her supposed friend, Star giving her the cold shoulder.

At least Elizabeth personally called Star after she left Tuesday; shows what kind of person Elizabeth is.

I'm watching today's View. It's got banners galore proclaiming 'PREVIOUSLY RECORDED'. In hindsight you see that Star is much more subdued than usual. This must have been recorded in the last week or so.
