Star Island Resort

Considering staying at Star Island Resort, has anyone stayed there lately? How close to WDW? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Stayed there last year, but had been there before so knew what to expect. It is a good 5 miles from the main gate on the west side (down 192 "East). So figure on at least a 15-20 minute light to light drive in traffic up and down 192.

• Good: We had a refurbed room so it does have granite counters, spa tubs. The rooms are large. Free WiFi.
• Meh: it has that Florida decor from 1986. The appliances are older, but then we only used them for breakfast.
• Bad: cleaning and smell. When not in use they kill the A/C, which makes the place very musty. They have never heard of Tilex (every time we stay in any vacation club we bring Lysol and Tilex; SI bathrooms really needed it in places). The pool was like ice water, and we were rudely told it was heated. Second bedroom has double beds (okay) but the linens and furnishing are very Motel 6, not resort.

Overall it is decent enough, but we only stay there if we really won't spend time in the room or use the pool, and get just an amazing price. FWIW.

If you don't mind paying a 75 cent toll, you can take a toll road near Star Island and the new Walmart. It cuts the drive to WDW in half and NO traffic!!!!

Yeah Osceola Pkwy at Poinciana..we've used it before...Good tip, should the OP decide to try SI.
