Standing VS Sitting ~FP+ areas for Wishes~

During our recent trip, we used one of our FP+ for Wishes. When we entered the area (about 20 minutes ahead of time) most folks were sitting on the turf. (LOVE the turf, btw!) When the show started, a great many people in the front section stood up which left a group of people, who were sitting in the back, very angry. We were stuck in between not being able to see over the people who were standing up in front of us, and the group in the back that kept angrily yelling in unison 'SIT DOWN! SIT DOWN' It was a bit intimidating and I kept waiting to see if a cast member would come and handle the ruckus.

LOVE LOVE the new viewing areas as they are lovely, not crowded, and no need to hold your spot ahead of time, but a little 'crowd control' would have been helpful.

So...my question is....What's the proper ETIQUETTE for this area? To Sit or Not to Sit...
That's the Question!

We have been told by the CM working the area that standing for Wishes is required. So they were correct to stand.
That said, while the CM will say you have to stand they do not force those who decide not to to do so

Gosh, I wish I had known that ahead of time. I wouldn't have been so intimidated.
The yelling was a bit disturbing and distracting, but I sure would have stood my ground had I known 'the rules'.
Honestly, I probably would have enjoyed sitting to watch it more and would have been able to see everything perfectly, but when the folks in front stood, that's what we did as well. I really didn't care one way or the other, but I wish a Cast Member had silenced the dispute.

Don't get me started on the battle I observed between a petite older woman and a dad who raised his child onto his shoulders when it began. LOVE the viewing area....hate the battles within it.

We sat in the back of the viewing area and had no problem seeing over the people standing near the front.

Were you able to see the projections on the castle during Celebrate the Magic ? When the folks in front of us stood, all we saw were hineys.:scared:

When we went (just before Memorial Day) everyone was asked 2x to stand up.

Guests in the area should not expect to not be obstructed if they choose to sit.

We were at the very very back. While the castle show would have been difficult to see, the fireworks would not have been much of an issue if one chose to sit.

But Disney designed it for standing based on the crowd level we saw. (Which was less crowded than the the quite crowding parts outside the FP viewing area.)

We've done it 3 times this year and sit in the back every time with no problem. We see everything just fine.

Everytime though the people in the front always stand. The CMs say its standing room only, but that's not a required or forced rule

Easy fix: stand close behind them. Then stand even closer. I had a few parents pop their kids up not but a foot in front of me right at show start. Some deep breathing and boundary issues fixed that up without a word!

Yep. We sat in the very last patch of turf in the back of the viewing area. So many people bunch up to the front and stand there, that there was space between them and us.

What you encountered was an anomaly of some sort. In all other times the CMs are very clear that it's standing during the show. I am amazed that they didn't go around and tell all that before it started. Maybe they did but it was before you and the family that was upset got there? Or maybe some groups get so deep in conversation they don't hear the announcements. When we've gone they said it when we walked in too. Specifically saying you can go grab a place to sit anywhere you wish but will be asked to stand for the show.

When we used the viewing area, in May, CMS came around before the fireworks even started and were asking everyone to stand. They said there were people with FPs who could not get into the viewing area, and everyone needed to stand to make more room.

To say the least, "lovely, not crowded, and no need to hold your spot ahead of time" was the opposite of our experience.

Perhaps it was an isolated event. There were two CMs that night that were at the magic band entrance and no one in our party saw them move about or make an announcement while we were in the area. Perhaps it was the CMs first night or perhaps, since it was not shoulder to shoulder, they did not feel the need to make the announcement. Nonetheless, hopefully, if others read this thread, and don't have an announcement, they will now know that standing is the proper etiquette. :clown: Thanks everyone for your help!

I've booked a FP+ for this, so I'm glad this was brought up. Not sure if we will keep that one or change it but at least now I know what is expected.
