I've noticed the following message when trying to book some FPs for January:
"There are no more FastPass+ times for this experience, but standby may be available."

How does a standby line work and how is it different than the regular line?

Standby is the regular line.

But now that you mention it, how they worded that does read kinda weird.

I am guessing that the "may be available" is just a way to cover all the bases of what ifs ... and situations where there is no standby like Illuminations Viewing or when there used to be Parade and Wishes Viewing.

Standby isn't always opened..

It's rare but there is situations with a ride down and how they hand out fastpasses that if it take long enough to reopen, there is so many fastpasses waiting to ride that the line for fp is over an hour long when the ride does reopen.. They will leave standby closed until the fp line goes back to normal and with luck that happens before the park closes.
