I was wondering if it is worth the extra ~$450 to have a guarenteed refurbed room. (standard room vs guarenteed refurbed / premium view).
Are the fireworks really worth it? Should I take my chances with the standard room and hope for a refurbed room. I am pretty sure that I will not be happy with an old room.
Any thoughts?

When are you going? Is $450 a lot of money or not much for the overall trip budget?

Yes, how long are you going for too? Now, if I understand correctly "preferred" means refurbed room, but "premium" is refurbed room with a view? At least that is what I was told by the CM when we booked our stay (Dec. 11-15), we went ahead and paid xtra for the "preferred" room, but not necessarily "premium". Does that make sense? I more cared about guaranteeing a new room, not as concerned with the view. Our 4 night stay was only an xtra $93 though, not $450. That does seem a lot!

I was told that they can't guarantee a refurbed room. We specified downtown disney view and that is still only a request. We are hopeful we will get a new room - I asked if it mattered if you paid for a upper floor DTD view and she said that still didn't guarantee it. I guess you find out when you get there.

I will definitely have to double check then, because the CM assured me preferred was guaranteed refurbed room...I called literally the day they added it as an option (I think just last week).

I called a few weeks ago and was told the same thing... kind of. I was trying to make a reservation for Fri. Oct 30th with the AP rate and the standard was sold out, but the CM said that the new refurbished rooms were available under "preferred standard view." I asked if this meant I was guaranteed a new room and she said yes!

We will be staying for 5 nights.
I was just informed that the construction is going smoothly and all of the rooms might be done by July (when we are planning on going). With that knowledge, should I pay extra or chance that all of the rooms will be done?
I also just got a quote for a standard refurbed room with an increase of ~$250 over the plain standard room (no guarentee of refurb).
I just don't know what to do.

If they think all of the rooms will be done by July, and that is when you are going, I don't think I'd pay the extra. They're doing it one building at a time so even if the they're running behind schedule, the rooms that wouldn't be finished should be out of commission and in the process of being worked on... if that makes sense? :confused3

Of course I could be totally off base and I'm probably no help at all! :lmao: Sorry!

I stayed in a refurbed room, after paying for a premium. It was lovely and all, but I don't think I'd spend $450 for it. Next time if I'm going to fork out extra dough like that, it will be to stay at the GCH, rather than for the premium view at DLH.

This is incorrect, actually. You are guaranteed a remodeled room if you pay for the "preferred" upgrade. If you don't pay for one and request a remodeled room anyway, you may get one, but it isn't gauranteed.

This is a new thing--they didn't use to have this "preferred" classification, but created it recently due to the fact that so many people were asking for the remodeled rooms.

When I stayed at the DLR over Labor Day weekend, we had an upper level/resort view. We were lucky and when we booked that was the cheap price compared to others.

The room was absolutely incredible. We were in the Dreams Tower on the Jungle Cruise themed 8th floor, more hallways than rooms. The rooms were beautiful, there were 2 plush beds with nice comforters. Above the beds was this detailed wood carving image of the castle with clouds, and there was a switch on the table in between the beds that allowed you to "turn on" the mural. When you first turned it on, the song When You Wish Upon a Star played once, and inside the murals, there were little star lights that came on. It was so pretty. There was also a very comfortable couch to sit/lay out on. There was also a desk and bar area that had a small fridge with drawers. Above that was the tv. The bathroom was huge- 2 sinks and the bath/shower and the toilet was in a small room inside the bathroom. There were also Disney touches and accents in the room.

The view was on DTD and we could see the Matterhorn, Space, Splash and DCA. At night, we could see the fireworks and some of the water/color from World of Color (though not much and you couldn't see the images) and there were channels that had the music that accompanied both.

If I could stay in that room for that price again I would. It just depends on whether or not you want to spend the extra money.

Sorry it was wordy, I just thought you would like to know what one of the rooms was like.

Kim,
From your description, you got one of the renovated rooms. I love what they have done with the new rooms. I am one of those odd people that likes the DLH much better than the Grand Californian. I especially love the newly remodeled rooms! We have stayed in them twice so far, after staying many times pre-remodel. The first time was last spring, and we were told that we were the first people to stay in that room since it had been remodeled. The next time was this past July, and we had a great view (12th floor) of the pool.

Now we are going Thanksgiving week (Monday-Tuesday night), and I paid for the upgrade. This is the first time I have paid for the upgrade to secure a remodeled room (in the past they didn't have the upgrade to perferred--I just picked a view room and paid for that) because to us it is worth it.

We really love the Disneyland Hotel. We have 3 kids, and the rooms are much more spacious for our family than the ones at the GC. I like the taller towers with the better views as well.

Here is a tour of the remodeled rooms:

Thank you all.
I have decided to keep my original room (standard no guarantee). I will take my chances that most if not all rooms will be done by July 2011. I can spend the money on more fun things to do with the family.
Thanks. I feel better about my decision.
Lori
